Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi After I bought my C4S the owner fitted the hardtop for me to take away. The rattles and squeaks were so bad it was a real shock. Is this normal as I may fit the top again for the next couple of months? Thanks

POST 2Original post

There is some noise associated with the hard tops, but not excessive. My last C4 was definitely noisier than this C4S. But i don't know of anyone who has a totally 'noiseless' hard top. I'm sure someone on here will be able to advise on ways to limit the noise and i seem to remember seeing a thread on this before? Julie

POST 3Original post

My '99 C4 hardtop also has a few little groans and odd noises, but not bad enough to be really annoying or warrant removing it and trying to re-fit. I think it comes with the territory. If it was a premenant fixture, then maybe worth really sorting, but as it's only for a few months(?) I can put up with it.

POST 4Original post

Rub silicone spray around all the rubber seals with a cloth. That should help, if not cure the situation. Although you will always hear some creaking due to body flex
