Hi. I have a 2005
Boxster
with Sound Package Plus. I want to bypass the amp. Is there an Ask Amp wiring harness? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Thanks
If you're not replacing the radio as well, read this -

The suggested site is a great option if you want to retain the stock radio and money is of no concern. I know this position/opinion is quite common. I don't suggest you go against your personal instincts.
If you are looking to add an aftermarket radio/amp/speakers, you can get all of them for around $1,000 to $1,500 for reasonable quality equipment.
I suggest
Pioneer
/
JBL
level quality 4" speakers in the rear and doors. Don't replace the dash tweeters. They are good enough, as is. Rockford Fosgate makes some great shallow mount 8" mid-woofers you can fit in the doors. You will need to fabricate mounting pieces or get a stereo shop to do the work. But, you can get really good results.
Over priced, ultra high quality speakers will not show much advantage in the noisy environment of a
Boxster/Cayman
.
As for access to the wiring after the amp. I do not know of a available
plug
. But, the larger wire sets in the amplifier
plug
are for the speaker output. I cut and spliced into mine. They are sufficiently large to carry the power from a 75 watt/channel amp without any issues.
I bought the JVC. It has two USBs instead of the normal one. So I can
plug
in a phone and a USB stick. I bought a $50 rear cam that ended up really clear.

I also changed the speakers, but the sound is still tiney and shallow. Maybe my amp is terrible or not working. Even hooking the speakers directly to the stereo would be better. I was thinking of getting a 4 channel amp and replacing the ASK. I think you are right, time to cut the harness. Thanks for your input.
BTW, I'm installing four 2.5 inch speakers in the back. I cut out some wood and am working on the wiring. I shall keep up updated when done.
It is hard to get good bass out of the stock set-up. There is room for 8" speakers in the door. If you put sub-woofers in there they will be inefficient due to the enclosure and you won't develop the mid-bass tones to give a complete sound. 8" Mid-woofers are the best option for the larger door speakers.
If you want good low end punch, you're going to have to add some sub-woofers.
I made some custom fiberglass boxes to fit in the corners of the rear hatch.
