Can't help with exact paint code other than there is one specifically for the silver used for the wheels.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all,
I recently picked up a 2001 C2 Cabriolet for my mom her dream car. The car is in great shape, but the prior owner painted the
Turbo Look wheels
black. We want to bring them back to the OEM factory finish.
Problem:
Im not sure what the
correct original color/code
is, and Suncoast sent me the build sheet but it doesnt list a wheel paint code.
Questions for the experts here:
Were the Turbo Look wheels a specific OEM color / finish from the factory?
Is there an official
paint code or formula
I can give a shop?
Is it better to
repaint
or
powder coat
for the closest factory look?
Id love to get these back to the proper OEM look instead of blacked out.
Thanks in advance Ive learned more in 2 days on Rennlist than in 2 months of Googling. 🙏
Repaint as that's what they have been from the factory. Can't help with exact paint code other than there is one specifically for the silver used for the wheels.
^Yes,
repaint
, not powder coat. ⭐️ I think there was a thread about the exact color Porsche uses somewhere.
These are correct colored crest center caps
for the early 996 if you wish to replace them at the same time. Did mine and made a night and day difference in appearance.
Out of curiosity why not powder coat? I have a set of Turbo Twists that's in slightly rough shape, can get them powder coated for about $450. Is this not a good option?
Thanks for the response! Out of curiosity, why paint and not powder coat? Will painting give me the closest OEM look? I don't have enough knowledge to argue one way or the other, but I was reading that powder coating is more durable than painting.
Not sure where in New England you are, but if by chance you are near Mass, I have had these folks strip and refinish wheels on my fun fleet. Here is my '02 with bottlecaps powder coated in the Porsche wheel silver. They will also paint, but powder coat is more durable day to day and no ill effects if done right. The place has a serious tuner vibe but do excellent work.
Nice Wheels, Ashland
I had Wheel Enhancement in Los Angeles do a repair on one of my wheels. They told me that Porsche does not give out a color code for wheels, but that they could match the original silver color of the wheels. The wheel was done perfectly and you can't tell it from the others. Shipping the wheel from Long Island to California cost a bundle, but it came out right. I suggest you find a local shop that has done repairs of Porsche wheels since you'll have to leave the car with them so that they can do all 4 wheels at once. Since you'll be doing all 4 wheels at the same time, you don't have to worry about color match. Because the color of the car is polar silver, why not paint the wheels the same color? That way, if you need to repair one of the wheels in the future, you'll know what the color code is.
Echoing others(and contradicting some), I believe Wurth makes to paint for the OP's car. It's not a secret.
I just had a gouge repaired on 1 of my '01's turbo twist wheels. It was $250, as I recall.
Don't use a mobile shop, or at least be careful. They are patch and paint, which is different, and not as good, as a 2-3 day strip, repair, and paint.
The car is in Sacramento California, so Ive been starting to explore different shops in the area.
This place had really good review so I did contact them. They said if I got a paint code, they easily get these back to the OEM look. They also had no problem mounting new tires and spacers after the paint job. They were booked for the next five weeks, which seems like a good sign to me.

I believe the proper color by Wurth is called Hyper Silver. I had that Sacramento shop repair two wheels off my MB and was happy with the repairs. However, I did need to have one of the wheels re-balanced. This was about three years ago.
Stuttgart paints these wheels for a reason. In my experience powder coat finish does't give the same level of brilliance that paint does, and it can't be easily touched up like a painted finish.
Powder coating is excellent for the right applications, an example would be off-road suspension components that take heavy of abuse.
I had these done at Kwicksilver about 3 years ago, so far they held up very nicely on this car, I left the car there and they kept it indoors and did the mounting and balancing there also.
ive also used (and recommend) kwick silver for powder coating, wheel repair and mount and balance. some recommend against powder coating alloy wheels because the heat weakens the wheel.
I'm surprised they don't have a paint code for the original silver color that the factory uses. I just remembered that I got the paint code (and touch-up paint) from Dr. Colorchip by calling them, for a wheel on my wife's Mercedes. It was the same thing with Mercedes -- the dealer didn't have a paint code or touch-up paint for the wheel, but Dr. Colorchip did.
Also, I forgot to mention that it's a good idea for the paint shop to re-mount the tires and re-balance the wheels so you don't have to worry about a tire shop scratching your newly-painted wheels. You don't want to get into a "he said--she said" predicament. If a shop can repaint the wheel but can't mount and balance the tires, you'll have a real hassle getting 4 wheels and tires to a tire shop for mounting and balancing. A long time ago, a tire shop gouged one of my BMW wheels that had been refinished and would not own up to it. It was only when he got a summons to appear in small claims court that they offered to pay for a take-off wheel from a dealership, not a brand-new wheel. And he wanted the old wheel that he had scratched.
thanks for the advice! When I first contacted them, I was just talking about powder coating but now that were talking about painting I can call them back and hopefully they cam help with a paint code. Yes, they can mount tires (and I was assuming balanced them too). The car could use new tires anyways so I was planning on shipping a new set to the wheel shop before they start this project.
