Hello everyone, I know this ha been posted several times but cannot find the right choice for me. I have a
Boxster
987.2
with all the possible electronic options available at that time (
bose
,bluetooth,aux,USB...).
I am able to self connect my phone via Bluetooth for calls but cannot stream music from it. I've plugged an USB key with music but I'd prefer to stream from the phone and still be able to control it via the PCM. Is there any possible solution?
- still maintain calls bluetooth connection
- play music from the phone via Bluetooth
- control music via PCM
I am not sure if this way the phone should establish 2 separate connections; one with the PCM for calls and an other with adapter for music. Is that possible?
Thanks

Edit: mistake on title of course it's
987.2
You can always plug the pone into the AUX port and run it through the headphone jack on the phone. That will play your music, though I doubt you can control it via PCM.
You could also get a Bluetooth puck that connects to the same AUX port. I do that on my SL55. Again, no way to control music from PCM.
Other than replacing your head unit, the only other solution is to get a Dension Gateway (replaces the CD changer) that has Bluetooth. This will allow you to control music via PCM.
On my
Boxster
I got rid of the horribly out of date PCM and replaced it with an aftermarket head unit and replaced the
BOSE amp
with a matching 5-channel amp. Love it as it does everything you are looking for and more.
The Bluetooth protocol on the
987.2
doesn't support streaming of music so I don't think you can get everything you are looking for without changing the head unit. I ended up using an external Bluetooth adapter plugged into the aux port. I have a magnetic phone mount right
next
to the head unit that I run
Android Auto
on and can control my music through Rocket Player. The downside is that you need to switch your audio input to the Aux setting when you want to use/hear anything off of your phone. For example, if you use Waze, the directions only come through your speakers when you are in Aux mode, so if you are listening to an FM station, you miss the audio portion of the directions. When you go this route, you basically don't connect to the car Bluetooth and instead only connect to the Bluetooth adapter. Not ideal, but it works.
if you're ok with FM transmission - the Roidmi 3S is worth looking at. Low cost <20 dollars and pretty decent sound.
I use the older version 2 and pretty happy with it. Cant control music externally - but use a phone mount into the CD slot and control everything from phone.
Hi Lesmurray,
I would love to hear more about how you replaced the head unit and
BOSE amp
. I have a 2005
987.1
with the
Bose
factory option and I'm looking at upgrading. the POV hacked in a Dension gateway 500 with a Bluetooth puck which is OK, but I have to go into my phone (Android) and make the Bluetooth connection manually every time i get in the car. I've done some google searches and a lot of what I find are comments on threads that state 'this has been documented elsewhere'. I just can't seem to find that 'elsewhere'. I know I need to spend more time with Google but any information would be beneficial.
Thanks
Mark
