Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've installed 2 of the URO units, but only on the driver door.

TLDR (my interpretation) - if you have the M535 system you have to use the genuine OEM part $$$$ but evidently the URO part $$ will work too.

No security then no worries and just use the VW part.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I bought the VW latch for my 996.2 and it fixed the window drop but the door locks / alarm didn’t work.
Seasons Greetings!
I had a window drop issue on the passenger side that I fixed with a door lock actuator replacement. Went with the a-premium aftermarket part - yea I know but the kids drained my account for Christmas stuff.
Anyway, the drop works great now inside and out but the alarm/locking is now problematic. Everything that is
not
working now, worked great before the repair - window drop was my only issue!
Symptoms:
Lock with remote and get one delayed beep and driver side acts as expected. Nothing happens on the passenger side.
The center lock button does nothing for either side or frunk/engine cover.
The remote button for the frunk isn't working either.
Verified with the PIWIS that the passenger side does lock/unlock successfully.
Have read some posts saying because it is not OEM there are going to be these strange issues until the country code is programmed and I have done that on the PIWIS in Developer mode.
I was able to clear the Airbag B05 (popped up after disconnecting the airbag during the process) - the others below I will deal with later.
Also thinking about ordering the VW equivalent instead of going straight to the Porsche part which is ridiculous $ but who knows if that would work!?!
Figured I would reach out to the community before surrendering
and putting the old one back in. Thankfully it is a LOT easier to do this one than it was on my Macan..
Cheers!
I bought the VW latch for my 996.2 and it fixed the window drop but the door locks / alarm didn’t work. I bought a used Porsche latch and that did work.
This has caused me quite a few headaches and cut hands over the past week or so and I thought I would pass this along.
This explains the different situations and outcomes based on your part choice and 996 security system. TLDR (my interpretation) - if you have the M535 system you have to use the genuine OEM part $$$$ but evidently the URO part $$ will work too. No security then no worries and just use the VW part. Will update when I replace mine with the URO part.

Another pro tip - don't let an ole miss receiver to get wide open down field with no time left and a kicker with a cannon leg on their roster.. Damn....
I have plans to do this come springtime. I even have the part, but can't recall if it's oem or not
Your post has me worried. My hands/fingers are too big to be wandering inside the inner door areas with exposed metal edges and tight spaces. Not looking forward to it. Especially if then I experience a bunch of electrical gremlins
Thanks for posting
Tuff loss.
Good tip, Sure we'll take note of that.....Hopefully Bain or Akheem will sack em before that becomes a worry, or Keionte Scott will pic em off...
I've installed 2 of the URO units, but only on the driver door. On 996.1 & 996.2, both work flawlessly.
The 996.1 has worked for years now, 996.2 only about a year but so far works just as good as oem did.
Looks like for some odd reason URO does not make a 996 passenger side door lock actuator...?
