Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The pipe can be checked by removing the air filter and then feeling under the pipe where it is in close proximity to the body where it bends through 90 degrees.
Leading evidence: 'Check by removing the air filter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check by removing the air filter' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

They've redesigned the hose and changed the end to a push fit connector, at the engine end, so I have to assume this was to fix a known problem.

No fear, I won't be driving the car till I replace the hoses.

You might want to check your own hoses to see if you have the same issue that I had.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just got back from a blast in my C4S and just about to put my car to bed when I could see steam coming out of the engine bay. Looked underneath and there was water on the hose clips on the right hand side. There is a small hose at the bottom and a large one at the top. I'm assuming that the top hose is leaking and the water is dropping onto what looks like a temperatire switch as well as the small hose below.
Has anyone experienced similar problems? I just hope it's a hose and nothing more serious.
Ray
Yes, at this age all the hoses are weak and will be ready to fail. I blew the right hand large hose that come off the engine (pressure side). I had the hoses changed and new rads installed at the same time.
If I had a leak that was coming from a hose I would NOT be driving it. It could split further and leave you stranded. Worse still if you continued to drive it you could permanently damage the engine if all the water stopped flowing by overheating the engine.
On another note, ethylene glycol coolant is deadly to all other road users due to its slipperiness. It's banned from use in many race series for this reason. On the road it's like being on ice! I have personal experience of going off a race track because of it once, and the poor westie that was behind me when I dumped mine spun off the track .......Not good!

Thaks Jeff, I'm pretty sure my failed hose is the same as yours although I can't figure which one it is on the OPC CD rom parts catalogue.
Ray
Thanks Jeff for confirming, I didnt feel qualified to say so and hoped someone would, I think its important to state 'DO NOT....' with these things just in case! :thumb: Once had a hose go on an old car late at night middle of nowhere. Just saw a massive cloud behind me....nearly had a heartattack!
Hope you get it fixed without too much pain Ray...geez not been a good month for you with your last OPC encounter, but at least it'll be all 100% as we head into proper driving season.
Ray,
Apologies, I should have added on a more serious note that I do hope it's a relatively easy fix for you and that you are back out on the road soon.
Regards -
No problem David, I've discovered the cause of the steam. There is a hose, approx 40mm OD, that comes out of the engine on the right hand side just below the aircon compressor that has worn where it was obviously touching the car body as it turns through 90 degrees and has worn completely through!
The problem is that I can't see how to remove it. I've taken the air filter out and can undo the hose clip that attaches to the engine. I can't figure out the other end as it disappears towards the front of the car. Anone done this job?
:dont know: :?: :frustrated:
Got the faulty hose out and purchased a new one from OPC. They've redesigned the hose and changed the end to a push fit connector, at the engine end, so I have to assume this was to fix a known problem.
You might want to check your own hoses to see if you have the same issue that I had. The pipe can be checked by removing the air filter and then feeling under the pipe where it is in close proximity to the body where it bends through 90 degrees. Mine was obviously scuffed and eventually failed.
Porscheuro, once I've figured out how to bleed the system then yes I'm sorted - any advice appreciated!
This 997 modification moves the pipe well away from the engine bay body. The part numbers for this mod are
Gasket 996.106.321.50
Hose 997.106.831.02
Connector 997.106.216.00
If anyone wants pictures before and after I'll happily send them to you, just pm me.
cheers
