is probably the best person to answer your question, your set up is exceptionally clean btw.
Leading evidence: 'best person' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best person' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean atlas grey example' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I was planning on seeing if I could use the dash buttons or I might try to incorporate them into the 3d printed pieces.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Afternoon everyone, I have acquired a 996 C4S the day before 2026. I feel blessed to come a cross a very clean atlas grey example. The car is paired with the grey interior and a painted silver center consule. The car has a Kenwood double DIN headunit that ties a front and rear camera. My goal is to convert the interior consule to a GT3 consule, my questions are as follows:
1. Does anyone have a recommendation for a single DIN headunit that still has the capability to reuse the front and rear camera and has solid audio output. Currently the car is equipped with the bose system and upgraded speakers.
2. Are there any dash plastics I need to acquire to complete the move to a single DIN headunit and climate control.
3. Has anyone painted the existing dash consule to match the exterior car color and co tinted to finish that color through the gt3 conversion. The intent would be to give it a complete consistant look through the center dash and breakup the grey interior.
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Evening, the climate control is in the lower section of the dash.
My ignorance is getting the best of me as i don't know about the fiberglass optic radio input.
Its all good. Fiber inputs imply you have a Bose system with a Bose amp.

Congrats in the 996! Love the color. You will have a blast with it.
I cant answer your first 2 questions, but i can help with your third.
My 996 is a 2002 with seal grey paint and a graphite grey interior. To break up the sea of grey i painted my center console seal grey and added a number of black and carbon interior bits. Still not done after owning the car for 23 years. The point is to take your time if the car is a keeper. I gotta say that the guys here on Rennlist provided plenty of ideas and examples which helped. Best of luck making it YOUR 996.
Cant help on #1.
With #2, it's been 2 decades since I did this but from my memory there shouldnt be any additional parts needed to change position of the single DIN radio plus moving the HVAC controls up underneath it from a factory installation but you're coming from that double DIN so not 100% certain if anything was removed to fit it (I doubt it but unless you installed it yourself... no way to know for certain). You also have to hope they used connectors and didnt just start cutting and splicing wires (still doable, but more annoying).
The only other issue I can see is that you have what look like aftermarket seat heater switches (?) in the bottom cubby fascia, so to get rid of the cubby you need to relocate those to the console blanks and get the factory heater switches. I'm assuming since mine didnt have seat heaters. I also assume you already know the parts needed for the gt3 console delete 'cleanup' with the carpeted forward portion and small rectangular plastic piece that goes in front of the shifter.
The cubby/cd carrier delete was one mod that I enjoyed every single time I got in the car. No longer annoyed by banging into my shin/calf on drives and it visually opened the cabin up quite a bit the way the older cars were, especially after painting the console. Highly recommended.
With #3, recently moved so no pics handy right now but I had the lower console and overhead area (sunroof switch surround and interior lights) painted in exterior color of paladio metallic to break up all the monotonous black of the interior. Never had any issues with it but I did not personally do the prep and painting.
Thank you for all the information, would love to see pictures of your set up. A couple of things:
1. I found a very interesting head unit
https://www.carfeature.de/en/hifi-na...a-inputs?c=806
. Seems like it might be coming to the US sometime in 2026. I like the fact that the output is around 200 watts, 2 camera input options, a ****, and a very clean and refined finish.
2. I am aware of the additional pieces required. I have seen muliple 3d printed versions and I was thinking of refinishing it to be painatable with the rest of the consule. I was also going to also do the dash pieces the previous owner painted. Has anyone done this? I do plan on painting the dash but I do have some experience in doing this with motorcycle tanks.
It does seem that there is a need to get a replacement dash piece. Seems doable.
I was planning on seeing if I could use the dash buttons or I might try to incorporate them into the 3d printed pieces. The heated seats were added by the previous owner.
Hi GC996,
Great interior!
Do you know if anyone ever tried the opposite lay-out? I mean: double din storage on top and the headhunt and AC control at the bottom?
just like the GT4 and GT3 "PCCM delete option" in later models..
the room for accessories will be more in the line of sight (phone, AUX, extra buttons etc)
I am thinking on developing such a part myself.
You should check out the
Power Acoustik CP-71WA
. It's also a single-DIN unit, supports cameras, and offers wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. It is available at Walmart for less than 50% the price of the unit you linked. It's very popular with the Ferrari 360 and Honda S2000 crowd due to their dash size limitations.
