Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I am picking up my new Cayman later this month. I plan on buying and installing a Denison unit myself shortly thereafter. If I ask my dealer to program my car's head unit to recognize a CD/Denison/aux input so that programming is done before I pick up the car, then I won't have to make a return trip the in the next week or two. Will the programming work without anything plugged in? If the programming does work, will I still be able to use the head unit before I install the Denison? thanks

POST 2Original post

Yes, just have the dealer program your car for the Porsche CD Changer; if you have PCM, it will show the error when you turn it on (click and it goes away) on CDR24 I am not sure, but it will still be useable.

POST 3Original post

If you have PCM, you don't need pre-programming. CDR24 will not show an error and you can have that preprogrammed to think a cd changer will be installed.

POST 4Original post

Are you sure about the PCM? Mine came from a car that had a CD changer already, and when I installed it (and tested before I went about the Dension portion of the install) it gave me a CD changer error. That would lead me to believe the car/pcm has to be programmed for the changer.

POST 5Original post

I have been calling up Porsche dealers around here in LA area and the best price I got for them to program my CDR24 to think there is a changer is $75. Some want to charge me $150.00. I scheduled mine for setup later this afternoon. I am hoping I will get my unit by Friday and install it over the weekend. I would want my ca rready so that when I install my Dension I will know if it actually works since I've done the programming part already. Any ideas how to get the programming for no charge?
