Previous owner installed the FVD Brombacher Motorsport deep sump oil pan on my .2. I almost always reverse into parking spaces and noticed recently just how tight the clearance is from the magnetic oil pan drain. The drain plug sits about 1/4� proud from the pan. The other day it actually just scraped on the parking block when I backed into a spot. I was very lucky it didn�t damage or shear the drain plug. So going forward- obviously I can be far more cautious about how far I reverse into parking spaces. But I am just about to go through the process of a suspension upgrade which will involve lowering the car anywhere up to a full inch. If I make the mistake of backing in carelessly the damage could be quite bad. Thoughts on putting the OEM pan back? what to do?

When I lowered my car and added a 2qt deep sump almost 20 years ago, I was worried as hell. But you adjust to knowing something is hanging out the back and make adjustments when driving. Its never been a problem on the street or track. I would rather have extra oil in the sump. But I will never valet park the car as a just in case. I would recomend a skid plate for extra protection.

My 99 996 C4 has a 2 quart extended sump with a LN Engineering skid plate . I am at ROW M030 ride height with stock 18 " wheels/tires . It's been 3 years now and so far have never scraped the skid plate . With the UAOS I run 11 quarts of oil . The benefit of increased oil capacity far out weighs the possibility of an occasional scrape . The LN skid plate is VERY stout .

Wait a minute. Your drain plug sits out a further 1/4" from the level of the pan itself? You are asking about the drain plug, not the pan, right? Did the drain plug come like that or is this an aftermarket drain plug?
