One question, I assume the cruise control stalk is an addition and wouldn't replace the OBD stalk?

3.4 eGas cars with DME 7.2 eGas have to have wires run back to the DME from the cruise stalk and instrument cluster, so it's quite a lot of extra work.

On 3.6 cars with DME 7.8 it's easier, as you only have to run wires from the stalk to the cluster, and to the fuse box.

I'm interested in adding this as a retrofit, but am concerned whether this would invalidate an OPC used car warranty.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thinking of installing cruise control. I have identified Wrightune as possible suitors to do the work. Anyone had it fitted by these folk? Good or bad? Should i stay away from this retrofit?

POST 2Original post

Not had it done personally, but I have only heard positive things about Wrightune See no reason to stay away from it, its a factory option thats reasonably easy to retrofit

POST 3Original post

My 2000 C4 (eGas) is booked in with them for next Monday. So if you can wait, I will post my feedback on the mod in a week. They look pretty professional, they only service/repair/restore Porsches and they run/mod cars for full racing (which is the true test of a car's abilities and weaknesses).

POST 4Original post

Had it done by Tony on my old C4 - excellent job done in less than 2 hours for £400ish; no hesitation in recommending Wrightune :worship:

POST 5Original post

Blimey - I hope a substantial chunk of that price was parts - otherwise it makes OPC labour look cheap! I must ask Tony if he can convert a trip computer stalk to cruise control, as I also have PCM (I think it must have been Techquipment as it's not on the bonnet sticker) and don't really need a separate trip computer as well.

POST 6Original post

Tony's labour costs are cheap usually... he looks after my 4s and my targa before. He's a nice genuine bloke, and a proper mechanic, rather than a "plug in to diagnostic and pray" OPC jockey.

POST 7Original post

It's nearly all parts - £280+VAT as I recall. You have to replace the entire stalk assembly & enable cruise on the car. All the wiring is already there on the e-gas cars.

POST 8Original post

Hmmm... interesting, as I think I have read somewhere that the trip computer and cruise control stalks are identical in mechanical function (apart from the stickers of course), so I wonder if this could be a labour only job? :?: Obviously come re-sale time the incorrect stickers and position of the stalk would have to be explained, but I guess the value of having cruise would outweigh the slight variation from original spec. (and we are hardly talking about concours scores on a 108,000 mile car I suspect!)

POST 9Original post

Hmmmm now oddly I'm looking at this myself!! I have heard nothing but rave reviews about Tony at wrightune! I'm looking at Cruise control as a retrofit on a car I'm pondering over! and him modifying my exhaust so it in effect becomes a sports exhaust! I have confidence it will be a positive experiance from what I've heard which will be nice!

POST 10Original post

for non PCGB members! "For a 2002 Targa it would be £350+VAT (cheaper than factory fit). And search is your friend: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=231176 " I asked the question on the PCGB Forum!

POST 11Original post

It depends on which model you have as to what's required. The wires are not already in the loom, you have to add them all. Once fitted, it is impossible to tell that it isn't original fitment. It's a genuine stalk he uses, with all the original stalk caps. You have to buy a 4-way stalk to fit cruise. The OBC stalk screws onto the left hand side of a 2-stalk unit, but you can't buy it separately. The cruise stalk is integral to the centre switching unit. I have to add that Tony and I have been the best of friends for over 38 years, so I'm biased. The Cup car in my avatar is the one he runs in Britcar (I do the datalogging and diagnostics for him).

POST 12Original post

My car is a 3.4 eGas, so it requires 5-6 hours fitting (at least that is how long Tony wants car for) As mentioned, more invovled with a pre-facelift car (at least mine is eGas or else new pedal assembly and others required) About 10 parts required, mostly various connectors and 4-stalk assembly (can't just add one more stalk) The steering wheel needs to come off, dash pod off, fuse box out, rear parcel shelf off, approx 25 metres of wiring in and around dash and from dash under carpet to parcel shelf in rear (where DME is located), and PST2 enablement. Now there is a DIY here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=661 but I reckon after £280 of parts I would blow up airbag, mess-up wiring, have a FUBAR'd cruise control and I would still need PST2 from OPC at 1/2-1 hour "labour" I think, having done many prior conversions, my car is in safer hands at Wrightune!

POST 13Original post

Very tempted to go for the retrofit as now I don't have cruise I've realised on past cars how much I used it. Wrightune would have been a good point of call given the feedback and price but a little far from me. Can anyone recommend somewhere in either South Yorkshire or the North East? One question, I assume the cruise control stalk is an addition and wouldn't replace the OBD stalk?

POST 14Original post

Four basic stalk assemblies are produced: 2, two 3 and 4 stalk designs. Oddly, the four stalk is cheaper than three stalk, and basically Wrightune enable OBC for free. If you already have OBC there is no saving as a whole new assembly is required, not just add one more stalk. The three stalk models are handed and are either cruise (right) or obc (left) - they are not interchangeable (although they both offer the same articulation switching, the cruise stalk has the enabler/ON push button at the end, plus of course the graphics on the stalks differ)

POST 15Original post

Hi, I'm interested in adding this as a retrofit, but am concerned whether this would invalidate an OPC used car warranty. Any thoughts? Especially as wiring is involved.
