Hey. I got the Sound Package Plus option on my '08 Cayman which I took delivery of about 5 weeks ago. I have been speaking to my dealer about getting the Parrot Colour Screen Bluetooth kit fitted. He advised me that it can be fitted but that it will not work through the cars own speakers (he says that a new speaker will have to be installed) and he also said that it cannot be wired in so that the radio will cut out when the phone rings (apparently due to fibre optics being installed rather than wires). Can anyone else comment on the above from their own experience? Many thanks for any responses
He's wrong. You can wire the sound directly into the center channel speaker of the car via the speaker level output on the Parrot kit and there is in fact a mute pin on the
CDR24
, please refer to, or refer your dealer to, the Parrot install article on this website in the electronics articles section.
Thanks,
Suneet
Thanks for that. Can I check, does the fact that I have the upgraded sound system make any difference?
I have the Parrot kit fitted to my VW and it is excellent, albeit it doesn't answer your question. If you look at Parrots website, the car they show it fitted to in the pictures is a 987
Boxster
.
i have sound plus and CDR 24 and have fitted parrot 3000E with mute on and wired directly onto the car speakers. i think so long as you dont have
pcm
, u r fine.
Even with
PCM
, or even with
Bose
, you should be fine. The pin-out of the
cdr24
and
PCM
is identical, and you're using direct copper to connect the speaker; so it's compatible across the board.
Hello wta99,
I installed the Parrot CK 3000 in my
Cayman S
(with
Bose
, without
PCM
) and I'll agree that the factory harness will accept the mute wire. However no matter how I tried to wire the front center speaker (even to the extent of direct wiring to the speaker with resistors in-line), the speaker would emit strange faint squeals and wouldn't respond to the Parrot's volume control.
If you experience the same problem, you might do as I did. I purchased a small rectangular speaker that's used in a cell phone car install kit. I then cut the appropriate sized hole in the lower front area on the stereo consule's left padded cover (driver's side). I made a speaker grill from a piece of perforated sheet metal, formed return edges on all four edgers of the grill, painted it satin black then "Frenched" it in flush to the pads surface. I preserved the back of the speaker cabinet that came with he speaker and hid the mounting screws under the friction-fit grill. You will have to remove a few square inches of unnecessary plastic from the console structure with a
Dremel
fiberglass cut-off wheel to allow clearance for the speaker cabinet. Finished job is visually indiscernible yet louder than the front center speaker!

Joe
Gents,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I have tried to access the Bluetooth Installation Article but there does not appear to be any text! I can only access photos when I click on the Article. Does anyone know how I can access the text explaining how the kit is wired in to cut out the stereo and into the speakers? Maybe I am being stupid, but I cant seem to find any link to the text...!
Many thanks,
Wayne
Help
Gents,
I am getting the Bluetooth installed this Thursday. I would really prefer for the dealer to wire it into the car's own speakers and to also install the mute facility. Can anyone forward any fuller details that I may bring to his attention in order to ensure that he does it right?
Many thanks.
WTA,
I'm sorry, it seems the article has been cleared... Try PM'ing TME110 to see if he can give you any assistance.
All I know is that the high-level output (speaker level) leads from the Parrot harness is gray\gray black and labeled in the directions and this can connect directly into the center speaker to give you audio from the center speaker.
refer to this post for mute pin info...
