Suggestion

I'm wondering if the head unit can be replaced without interfering with "other" systems within the Cayman.

Suggestion

Not sure why you cannot amplify all the door units with a new replacment external amp and just use component speakers w/ crossover for the smaller mids.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Looking at what audio system to get with the Cayman and since the BOSE system is absolutly awful, I'm wondering if getting the SPP (sound package plus) is a better option and just upgrading the speakers to a top tier aftermarket components, ie Morel ...? Not sure why you cannot amplify all the door units with a new replacment external amp and just use component speakers w/ crossover for the smaller mids. Leaving the HU amplifying the dash tweeters and the rear side mids. Anyways, here is a breakdown of the layout if anyone is interested. So many threads on this topic, but there nothing in black & white as to the layout, so made a quick list. Sound Package Plus Head Unit: Dashboard: 2x 19-mm/ 0.7 in. tweeters Door: 2x 100-mm/ 3.9 in. mid-range loud-speakers Rear side: 2x 100-mm/ 3.9 in. mid-range loud-speakers External Amp: (2x70w + 1x40w): Door: 2x 200-mm/ 7.9 in. low-range loud-speakers Dashboard: 1x 70-mm/ 2.8 in. mid-range loud-speaker (center speaker) I'm wondering if the head unit can be replaced without interfering with "other" systems within the Cayman. I am sure some have done this and I saw a few pics from another member with XM, but he didn't detail his install. -Garrett
