I fitted my aircon controls myself so I know that no trimming is required although the wiring needs to be re-routed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just fitted a double din stereo so had to move the controls for the heater into the lowest position. The aperture seems to be too small for the heater to go into, it goes in 75% of the way then stops. It looks like I am going to have to trim the heater box down, is this right? I know I need a new cosmetic trim and I have ordered this from OPC but the box itself does not fit and I have not heard this trim mentioned before...

POST 2Original post

It should slide all the way in, but it is a bit tight. Definitely no trimming required.

POST 3Original post

seen it done lots! try a search on here! Bound to be a thread about it!

POST 4Original post

The climate control unit is a little tight but should fit in without any alterations. Here's the arrangement I went for, I also decided on swapping the CD holder for an oddments bin.

POST 6Original post

Chipfork is right, no trimming required, get yourself a new Bezel from OPC. :bandit:

A Kenwood DNX8220BT - Integrated Garmin Sat Nav, iPod connectivity and Parrot Bluetooth. IMHO, a great piece of kit.

POST 8Original post

+1, fitted earlier generation Kenood 7200 myself 8) Garmin is heaps better than Tom Tom IMHO Ray

POST 9Original post

Why do you tempt me so? I will need a second job soon if can't rein the spending in. This is not helping!

POST 10Original post

I was advised by a guy from PClubGB not to have a system like this fitted as he'd had a disaster- Looks like you guys have managed fine! Integrated bluetooth, garmin and ipod makes it a much better system than PCM2, and I think it looks less fussy. Did you get someone to do it, or DIY?

POST 11Original post

Deffo no trimming required, its a complete bi tch to get the cables through the tiny hole at the bottom, but i did it with lots of swearing in the dark after 40 mins!

POST 12Original post

Just finished doing exactly this on monday night and got exactly the same problem when it came to sliding the heater controls into the lower center console gap. It would go in 90% and then no further. Fannied about with it for around half an hour, got right pi***d off with it and gave it one last ignorance is bliss push and in it popped. Took much more force than i expected it too but no file required. Your probably thinking like i was and worried about damaging the h/c unit but don't worry, just give it a very hard push and it will drop in, ohh err!!

POST 13Original post

I had a car audio specialist in Sheffield fit it, well known to the OPC and came highly recommended. The guy who fitted it knew the ins and outs of the 996 and even knew where best to site the GPS and what surrounds I'd need for relocating the climate unit. They did a really good deal and even threw in some crossovers, the iPod video lead and free fitting. I've since been back to have some new speakers fitted. No dramas during the fitting so I'm told  It'll be interesting to see whether the new head unit will impact my warranty renewal in June.

POST 14Original post

I fitted my aircon controls myself so I know that no trimming is required although the wiring needs to be re-routed. The key to the success of these third party systems is finding suitable impedance matched cross-overs. I found mine on ebay, but you must get the correct impedance otherwise the speakers will be sent incorrect frequencies that they can't deliver against. :bandit:

POST 15Original post

Had mine fitted by a specialist in Hemel Hempstead 'In car electrics', although I had to source the crosovers myself. The kenwood is a great unit! Ray :thumb:
