Since I received my CS, I have been happily using iTunes on my iMAC to burn MP3 CD's by importing music from my purchased CD's. However, I have recently started having trouble reading the MP3 Cd's reliably. The car CD player gives me a "disk read error" message when attempting to read some of the tracks and then tries to skip through the tracks until it reaches a track it can read. I have made 6 MP3 CD's before without any trouble. I'm now guessing that it could be related to the recent iTunes update to version 7.4.2 (4) for MAC OSX. I am attaching my iTunes settings for you to have a look at.
I tried reducing my import sampling form 192 to 160 Kbps to see if solves the problem but it didn't. I am creating play lists in iTunes and keeping the the tracks in folders under the root directory of the CD; exactly as I did in the past. I have waisted about 12 CD's so far trying to figure it out. Both my MAC and PC read the CD's without any trouble so I'm suspecting the car player. TO complicate matters further, the car payer still reads the old MP3 Cd's without issues. I'm confused and frustrated. I have the full PCM with Bose. Can anyone help please? Thanks...
Most aftermarket cd players( sony, pioneer, etc) can play MP3 cd's that are set up in folders and that's most likely what you are trying to do. Our cd players cannot do that. I wasted time and burned the bggest cd i could by putting everything into folders and it didnt work. You have to take the songs out of the folders and burn them so there is no need to go through folders to access them. CDs in my car are MP3s and they are playing perfectly fine due to the lack of folders
This is incorrect. I use a folder structure on my MP3 CDs and the PCM plays them without issue.
hmm... I have the same issue too... haven't been able to figure this one out yet either. In my case, lots of my mp3 songs are chinese songs with chinese words in the ID3 tags... But somehow, there are just a few songs that would not play on the PCM, no matter what I tried. But... I did try using .wma file (burned with WMP) instead of mp3 and some of those songs that didn't work before worked, but I still got a few that just would not play on the PCM.
Anyone might know why or whats the issue? It would be helpful to know. And having Folders is not the issue. i have tried with or without and I got the same error issue with those songs. PCM seems to support folders fine.
try burning as a data CD not mp3
In WMP11, the BURN options are Audio CD or Data CD. You must select Data CD in order to burn a CD with MP3 or WMA files on it rather than CDA (CD audio).
Sounds like stormtroopar is using the Data CD option since he was able to select WMA files.
Perhaps some of the Chinese characters used in the tags are causing the files to be unreadabale. Try changing the tags and see if that helps.
Thanks. Not sure if I can choose data cd instead of mp3 in itunes for MAC but I'll try. All my tracks have English tags so I don't think it's the language. Could it be the 160 kbps encoding! Perhaps I need to try 128.
Sorry, can't help you with iTUNES. Surely couldn't hurt to try different bit rates. Make sure iTUNES is burning MP3 files and not AAC or some other format.
yes you can burn as data cd on i tunes if gives you the option in preferences
I have tried using different bitrate from 128 all the way to 320, didn't help... I will try changing the tag and see.. but I don't think it is, cause the same rip from the same CD, all works fine, except a few songs in it. Also, I got a cd to work after changing to wma file that didn't work before with mp3. But the same trick would not work with those particular songs that doesn't work... arg... not sure why. But thanks for all the help.
