Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I rubbed my finger in it and it was oily and the colour of fresh oil which was changed only last week when the car had its 48k service.
Leading evidence: 'Replace only last week' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'water you get' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check on the security/tightness of the oil filter' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I first wondered if it was the water you get from aircon systems on other cars, but no.

I had a look at the liquid that was dripping onto the exhaust and its a yellowish colour, but not as thick and greasy as i would expect pukka engine oil to be, and probably the wrong colour as well.

Suggestion
If the oil was changed very recently, then it might be worth checking on the security/tightness of the oil filter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi there.
Ive just today returned from Leeds to my hometown of Berkshire which took a little over 3 hours today to cover the 200 mile journey which tells you the kind of average speed i was getting up to (maybe).
... I was not driving this thing like a maniac at all, but im talking maintaining higher speeds over a long period of time.
Anyways, i got home today and immediately notice that something was dripping off the left hand side exhaust tip. I first wondered if it was the water you get from aircon systems on other cars, but no. I rubbed my finger in it and it was oily and the colour of fresh oil which was changed only last week when the car had its 48k service.
Looking under the car, it looks like something is dripping onto the exhaust tips from above it, which are then dripping off the exhaust .... which of course has me SCARED and thinking the dreaded 3 letters R,M and S.
Its managed to make a 10 inch round 'patch' of oil on the tarmac from being left now. So its not like its 'weeping' like people talk about with an RMS problem ... so perhaps its not even that?
Any ideas?
Its a 2000 C2 with 49k on the clock.
The RMS is not near the exhaust tips? You say it's dripping down onto the exhaust tips, is it flowing there from directly above or 'finding' it's way there from somewhere else? Have you traced where the source is? If it's the amount you're talking about you should be able to see it. What is the dipstick reading at?
I'm by no way an expert but that sounds weird to have oil dripping where you describe. Has it stopped now? Looking from directly behind on a flat surface does the left tip look noticably lower than the right now? Aren't the stock motor mounts fluid filled? :dont know:
What about pipes in the engine bay on the LHS, nothing pinched or leaking?
Been doing some investigation here and it really looks like its the coolant resevoir which has cracked or split and dumped its guts.
I had a look at the liquid that was dripping onto the exhaust and its a yellowish colour, but not as thick and greasy as i would expect pukka engine oil to be, and probably the wrong colour as well.
From further reading, it appears as though 996's are notorious for this happening, especially after a hard drive where the exhaust manifold heat has a tendancy to crack the coolant tank..... Also, i do remember noticing that the coolant levels seemed either not very obvious or non existant when i glanced at the tank.
Anyone had their tank replaced recently? ... Ive heard its not cheap!
