Now I have a 997 GT3 now (2 year service interval), but I will be following with Bournemouth OPC the rule I applied for my 996 Carrera 2 which needed an annual service of changing the oil and filter annually.

I shall get it done then and promise to use the car a bit more.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just canvassing opinion. If you had a 2004 C4S with a '4' in the VIN number indicating it is a 2yr or 12000 mile service (which ever is the sooner etc) and you had it serviced March 2008 and..... hang in there, had only done 1,370 miles since then would you have the oil changed. My two trains of thought.. 1. The car has done so few miles and the oil is synthetic so it won't be affected by the lack of use.. No point in having it done. 2. As the car hasn't done that many miles the oil could go 'off' or 'sludgy' so have it done. Not having it done means one less stamp in the book however a look at the book and mot's etc would show the few miles and also indicate it has been serviced to the manufacturers guideines. What do you think guys and gals... :?:

POST 2Original post

Hi Wilkyboy Synthetic oils are far more reliable than the old mineral oils of the past. Even when you are not using the car there is always the risk of a little internal condensation in the engine which does go into the oil. Synthetics are far better at coping with this and you dont get the old fashioned "sludging" Now I have a 997 GT3 now (2 year service interval), but I will be following with Bournemouth OPC the rule I applied for my 996 Carrera 2 which needed an annual service of changing the oil and filter annually. Does it need that? No. But if you love your car, love your engine too! Regards Big Bob

POST 3Original post

Better still Get the covers off and drive so you have some miles on then there will be no dilema! A Porsche is not an orniment!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers for the thoughts... And I know I should use it more. But I travel 12 miles a day to and from work which the Suzuki 125 copes well with that. When the suns shines the old BMW Boxer comes out. My wife has commented on the fact we have the most expensive ornament she has ever seen. I shall get it done then and promise to use the car a bit more. So the 'It will go rusty if it gets wet' is actually a myth...!! Spring is almost upon us, thank gawd.
