Engine oil is read out in the cluster, have engine up to temp, turn off car. then turn key on without starting. You'll see a timer in the display which will show the oil level After it counts down, make sure the car is on a level surface

The owner's manual will say exactly what you need to do. But from my own experience with a 1999 996, when I drain the oil (Mobil 1, 0W-30), and remove the oil filter... I end up putting in 9 quarts of oil. Put in 8 quarts and drive the car. Let it sit for 10 minutes and check the dip-stick. I always end up putting in the last of the 9 quarts after that. You will have to add about 1 quart between oil changes. For my car that is about 7,000 miles. Happy motoring.
