Suggestion
With coilovers like ohlins, you can adjust the ride height.

Suggestion
This looks a little low, but with Ohlin coilovers, you can easler adjust your ride height, while not effecting your shock rebound/compression effect.

Suggestion
I hear people mention bushes but I dont' know which ones I should replace (or indeed where they are etc.).

Suggestion
I'm wondering if all the ppl who replaced just the springs have this problem.

Suggestion
struts are not strong enough to control the springs in standard setting so you get a slightly bouncy floaty ride which is particularly noticeable on the motorway.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm wondering if anyone has been in a
Cayman
lowered with
Eibach
and H&R separately and what their impressions were. I see a lot of separate reviews but curious if someone rode in both setups. The
Cayman
is already a pretty rough ride but I cant stand the gap so lowering it is inevitable!
I used to have H&
R springs
on my 2010 base
Cayman
. I was not a fan, the car was way to bouncy and bottomed out to often. The height/stiffness was not the issue, I actually liked it. I ended up switching the springs out for JRZ coil overs, much better ride and was not bouncy.
dave-t
we used
bilstein
sport and eiback pro kit before going to jic coilover
it was firmer than oem, less confortable cause it was firm,
nice on the track
hope that helps a little
I swapped out the factory springs and replaced them with Eibachs. I added a set of factory suspension bushings/spacers (10mm front, 9mm rear) so the car isn't too low to the ground, yet car sits lower than factory. My car drives well for around-town cruise, 13hr road-trips, twisties in the mountains, and DE.
I have
eibach springs
on a non
pasm
cayman
. Went on recently I don't like them and want to revert back to standard. If you live in areas of speed bumps the car will catch underneath which is annoying, I also agree with other comment, car is too bouncy, the car can bounce down motorways, other times the ride can be too firm and crashes over bumps and it is unpredictable in corners. I wouldn't go springs alone again.
I have the Cargraphic (H&R) springs on my non-
pasm
cayman
and the ride isn't bouncy at all. Sure it does scrape here and there but i've been driving low cars for a long time so i've gotten to learn how to drive without scraping. My only complaint with these springs is the uneven gap between the front and rear. If the front had the same wheel-fender gap as the rear, that would be ideal looks wise.
Having done the
Eibach
/
Bilsteins
on my
Audi
the ride is fine but over the years it is a constant pain due to bottoming out going through dips and with curb stops. Also it's very difficult to allign as the values are all off with the lowering and a best guestimate is required. My
Cayman S
is already pretty low and scrapes at times and a lot of time and energy has been done by the engineers to get tire wear right (see other postings about needing new lowers to acheive good tire wear on lowered cars). I just don't want to go there by lowering it more and the potential for increased tire wear and damage to the underbody and front end.
Doc, I hear you. I experience the same in my A4 when theres a huge dip the shock doesn't catch the car and it bottoms out. Also, its a well known fact for audis to be a alignment nightmare. Maybe I'll just keep it stock too.
I had Cargraphic (H&R) springs on my MagRide TT and had no issue as all. It was firmer than OEM, but not bouncy and never scraped - but then the TT has shorter "portes-à-faux" (I don't know how you say this in English - the bits between the axles and the extremities of the car, front and rear....overhang?)
The consensus on the Audi TT forum seemed to be that H&R were a better experience than Eibachs which I've also had on a Saab Aero 9,3 - that car would definitely bottom out. I'd never go with Eibachs again.
I will scrape the undercarriage wind deflectors on the Cayman with the OEM suspension as it is when I am not careful so I would not go any lower than I have now.
I think TPC does custom
Eibach springs
. I need to get in touch with them when I decide to buy everything. I'm thinking the stage 2 with springs would handle well. I'm guessing they will vary the spring rate depending where you are driving.
I really don't want to suffer performance wise.
I had
Eibach springs
on my Gen 1 CS with
PASM
. I didn't like them at all; the appearance is better but you certainly scrap the bottom a lot.
The
PASM
struts are not strong enough to control the springs in standard setting so you get a slightly bouncy floaty ride which is particularly noticeable on the motorway. The
PASM
strut do a better job of controlling the springs in Sport mode but I found the ride far too hard and very harsh over bumps and pot holes. From my experience, I would not change just springs again.
I now have a CR and the difference in ride and handling is unbelievable
I've just had my stock springs replaced with
Eibach
Pro's on my base
987.1
non-
pasm
. Car looks better being lower however the steering has gone light and it feels like I have to turn the wheel a fair bit now before anything happens. Feels like overly asisted power steering and loose. Before I switch back to original springs does anyone else know if this is normal? Is there something I should replace that could save this install and bring back my steering? I hear people mention bushes but I dont' know which ones I should replace (or indeed where they are etc.). The garage didn't use anything new except the springs on install. Car is aligned nicely all round as done on a hunter alignment. I can't help thinking there is something that needs tightening or a part that needs renewing for the steering to be fixed - but maybe everyone on
eibach
pro's and stock shocks has loose steering?
I have had my
Eibach
Pro springs on my Gen 1 for about 3 years and have had no issues with the lowered car. Yes, the steering feels lighter to turn, but I would not over think it. My alignment is fine and tire wear is normal.
IMHO the car handles and looks better!
I believe the car is more nimble. When taking high speed exits, then down shifting the car feels connected to the road. As if it is on rails. The area I live in have a lot of beautiful roads to drive on. If you have tracked your car before the Spring swap out then tracked your car after the
Eibach
Pro spring install you will notice a difference.
Just drive your car! and enjoy the modifications,
Hmm I'm gonna put it through its paces as soon as the ice goes! one thing I notice is that my springs are blue - and they have
eibach
stamped on then. Lots of others seem to say theirs are yellow - how do I know they have put
eibach
pro on for sure?
Hi what's your caster? I think I've worked out my caster of +7.5 is not positive enough now it's lower, resulting in light steering so I need to increase it but I will need to find out how to do that
I ordered lowering springs from H&R ( 35mm ) , I expect them to be here in about 10-12 days so I'll be able to tell my experience , although from what I've read so far some people had problems with car being too low and hitting the ground...
I would like to ask , with a 3,5cm lowering spring , should I have such a big problem ? I thought that with 3,5cm I'd be ok with driving and my car would look nicer..
well mine is now around 30mm lower and I would not like to go any lower myself - it looks pretty slammed. I have had a few scrapes on steep inclines and road bumps but mainly that's if I drive to fast. If I go down to about 12mph for speed bumps and for large ones I try to get some angle on approach then no problem
I think another 5mm can't be that bad - like me you will prob just scrape the lower front bumper bits and they don't show up much anyway.
I look forward to hearing about your experience and what happens to your steering feel. Mine's in the garage monday for the caster adjustment bushes which I hope will give me some feeling back
From
What I hear ,
eibach springs
are a bit stiffer / harder in feeling than H&R
I don't mind about speed bumps , I'm just a bit anxious because some
People said they've had problems in motorways...
So
Imagine if im going with 140km/h for example and there is an uneven spot in the motorway...
Maybe my car will get damaged
So if there is any guy here who got the 35mm H&R lowering springs for a 987
Cayman S
I"d really appreciate to tell me his experience.
Generally a lower car with stiffer springs gives you a better driving feeling and the car is quite more stable in corners..
I have the
Eibach
Pro springs. High speed cornering with my
Eibach
's are fine. The only down side to a lowered car are speed bumps, which can cause scraping of the front spoilers and driveways that have a dramatic accent, which can cause to the front spoilers.
I had to have my front spoilers replaced. But overall I am happy with my lowered car, this is not my DD. If this were my DD I would NOT lower my
Cayman
.
I recently had
Eibach springs
installed. The car is 1" lower F&R and feels great. A bit firmer with no bounce or bottom. It feels very close to the
Cayman R suspension
now and OEM Cay
R springs
might be an option for you.
No, but remember I have GT3 arms so 2.6 neg camber in front. The car drives great and just a bit more firm. Going too low definitely screws up the steering geometry on these cars and removes road feel.
Great looking car!
Do you experience any scraping? I just had a discussion with an owner who said they still scrape with the stock
PASM suspension
(10 mm drop).
With coilovers like ohlins, you can adjust the ride height. This looks a little low, but with Ohlin coilovers, you can easler adjust your ride height, while not effecting your shock rebound/compression effect.
