I doubt the RS60 tips will change your exhaust note at all, but if you like the look, go for it.

One more thing: technically, does that mean I could just replace the stock tips on mine with the RS60 style exhaust tips?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi everyone, I just wanted some clarifications on this issue. I've already done some searching around on the forums etc. but i'm unable to find a conclusive answer. I have a 3.4l Porsche Cayman S with Sports Chrono (on the interior) and a "sports" button on the inside. This is how my car looks now, it looks like the standard exhaust to me, but I also saw some threads which said if you have a 'sports button' you will have the sports exhaust, so i'm a little confused now. Please if anyone could clarify this issue! Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Just look at the mufflers. If there is a valve on each muffler, than you have PSE . These are pics of the stock mufflers, and the PSE mufflers. Sport Chrono and Sport Exhaust were two different options. Many cars were ordered with Sport Chrono , very few with PSE .

POST 3Original post

Thanks for the quick reply! So it has nothing to do with the Exhaust tips at all? I will go take a look later and see if I have any vales on each of the mufflers!

POST 4Original post

Correct, but there was an optional chrome Sports Exhaust Tip. It just replaced the stock tip, but not the mufflers. The tip pictured above is the RS60 style exhaust tip which later became standard on the 987.2 S cars as well as the Boxster RS60 and Cayman S Sport. The RS60 and the Cayman S Sport both came standard with PSE . Check out the FAQ section in the forum. It has a lot of great info about the 987.1 cars.

POST 5Original post

Thanks for the help! I will definitely check out the FAQ section. Appreciate it! One more thing: technically, does that mean I could just replace the stock tips on mine with the RS60 style exhaust tips? (Or optional chrome sports exhaust tips) Do you know if it is just a slide on/slide off kind of thing with some screws in place or does it involve welding? I'm not sure if I want to make the huge spend on a full exhaust system yet given that the stock sound is already quite nice! But I do think the stock tips look a little strange.

POST 6Original post

You should be able to swap tailpipes as they are all attached in the same way.

POST 7Original post

The stock tip is actually the tip you see from the rear which then bolts onto a T pipe which connects the two mufflers. The optional sport tip mounts the same way. The RS60 tip replaces the T pipe and is one assembly instead of two peices. It requires removing one or both mufflers to slide off the stock exhaust tip/T pipe and slide on the RS60 assembly. Either way, you can expect rusty old bolts, but no welding necessary. The first picture is a Boxster S exhaust tip showing both peices, and is the same idea as your stock Cayman S tip. The second picture is the RS60 tip which is the same as 09 and up Cayman and Boxster S cars.

POST 8Original post

If you have PSE you should have a separate button for it in addition to the Sport button. Think it was marked with a symbol that sort of looked like the exhaust tips, OO.

POST 9Original post

Thanks for the replies everybody. I am convinced now that I only have the stock exhaust without the PSE . I don't have the exhaust button next to my sports button. I am quite keen to go with the RS60 Tips, because i've heard it improves Flow slightly, and also improves the Exhaust Noise slightly! (It also looks way better than the stock tips IMO) Any comments?

POST 10Original post

I have SC & PSE on my 2010. What you probably saw in other posts is that if you have both SC & PSE , turning on SC will also turn on PSE , but only if you have it. The PSE button looks like a pair of binoculars (supposedly exhaust tips) and it changes the exhaust note considerably; it's markedly changed at higher RPMs. On my 2010 (different engine) it sounds a whole lot meaner and throatier with it on but I usually drive with it off because it's also a lot louder and I feel self-conscious. I doubt the RS60 tips will change your exhaust note at all, but if you like the look, go for it. You can go full aftermarket exhaust, too. You can search for "Gundo Hack" & 987 which turns up a lot of people discussing similar mods for 987s that you can do to your existing exhaust for pretty cheap that a lot of people like. Here's one: http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/cay...ayman-performance-modifications/p104-stock-cayman-s-exhaust-exhaust-cpage1.html

POST 11Original post

When I added the RS60 tips, the exhaust didn't change noticably. It maybe got a little deeper/louder, but not enough to say for sure.

POST 12Original post

If you don't have the exhaust button next to your shifter, you don't have it. Wow, I am incredibly lucky I got Sport Chrono and the sport exhaust on my car. I had no idea about Porsche options, I just bought the car because I liked it and now I think about the chance I could have gotten one without those. Scary.

POST 13Original post

Not necessarily so, at least for 987 models. If one retrofits PSE to a Sport Chrono-equipped 987, as I have, then no dedicated exhaust switch is required. Activating the Sport switch also switches the PSE into muffler bypass (loud) mode. Also, PSE activates automatically, regardless of Sport switch position, concurrent with the Varioram system. The foolproof PSE giveaway is the presence of the bypass valves, as previously noted. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
