What I was happy with is that the overall look is even, and I really need to check with the technician which did the work if he used any shims or not....will check tomorrow.

Changed the size of the pics on here now and had to upload new ones because in fact my originals were huge, but I posted the smaller version of them!!

When they pulled out the front shocks they found the top rubber bump stops were screwed (read, old), so replaced those.

The ride height is perfect and not too low...slammed...and the front bumper will still clear kerb stones used for parking space stops I think.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You can never have too many details and pics of our cars, so here are some more of my
PASM
equipped 987.1S with comparison photos of stock and after install of H&R aftermarket springs.
I went with H&R because I like the relationship they have with
Porsche
racing and wanted a lower look than maybe Eibach would have given. Either brands would have been fine for me as I've used Eibach before and been very happy with them.
I took measurements of critical areas for comparison prior to the install and as soon as I get a chance will take post install measurments and post them up.
I had the springs installed and alignment completed at the dealer because they offered me a price I simply could not refuse. Also as I am in the process of moving house it would have been a while before I'd have been able to do it myself.

Unfortunately my camera takes amazing HD video but not fantastic pictures, but hopefully you get the idea of the before and after look.
The ride height is perfect and not too low...slammed...and the front bumper will still clear kerb stones used for parking space stops I think. The ride is slightly firmer but not a huge difference from what I feel. The springs will probably settle a little more but the biggest difference can already be seen.
The only downside is that spacers are a must now as the wheels really looked tucked in now. Time to start saving!
More details to follow........
I like the more aggressive stance. I think our cars look so much better with less of a gap between the wheel and fender. Your is lowered but not dumped. Cars without
PASM
look like 4X4's from the factory. Your car looks perfect now.
Will do. The shadows don't really help either
Later today I need to get some shots of the wheels/arches as well and will put them up along with bigger pics.
Changed the size of the pics on here now and had to upload new ones because in fact my originals were huge, but I posted the smaller version of them!! If you go to my gallery you'll find the new size ones and the previous massive version
The shadows kill a little bit of it and if I had spacers it wouldn't be an issue as the arches would not shadow the tyres.
Later today will come close up wheel pics and dimensional data hopefully
If only! Not sure it will make much difference on track as
PASM
already does a really good job, and think only coilovers would help dramatically. But I guess we'll see, and maybe it is better as it will offer less roll compared to
PASM
in normal mode but less hard than PSM in sport and so maybe a better compromise for riding the curbs at Yas
I can't base an answer on my install as the parts from a supplier in Germany were much cheaper than else where, and surprisingly the first time I've found a part from a German brand that is cheaper than the US!
On top of that I got a great installation deal with my dealer
In total it cost me under $600 including parts, install and replacement of the bump stops ($45)...and best of all I didn't have to get my tools out of my tool box.
Generally over your side of the pond (US), I have seen Eibach and H&R spring sets from anywhere between $320-500, so best to do some shopping around.
For the install labour I've seen figures, again stateside, of $300-600 and alignment costs between $80-150, so again worth shopping around.
Oh and you should look in the classifieds as there is a set of Eibach's for sale.
Thanks! Spacers will really show it off better.
Cheers! I wanted to provide as many pics as possible, and didn't think it would be such a pain to get pics without the shadows and actually show the gap properly!
Looks really well, hopefully a mod that i'll carry out before the summer. I'm still undecided between the eibachs and the H&Rs but I think your article has swung me towards the H&Rs.
where can i get these springs?
I looked at this part number and it always comes up as springs for the Boxter ,
are
cayman
and boxter springs interchangeable?
thanks
The part number I listed is wht H&R list on their European site and is what available outside of NA.
For NA you need 54020 based on H&R's US website.
However, there is no difference in the OEM springs between Boxsters and
Caymans
as they have the same part numbers (I just checked) and I think customers have even reported the box saying one part number and inside them being the other.
I think the difference may just be place of manufacture or something and maybe the 54020 are manufactured in the US and the 29168 in Germany....I can't think of an explanation other than this.
The OEM suspension is no different for any 987's shipped anywhere, so it seems either 54020 or 29168 are fine. Just to avoid any issue I'd still suggest ordering 54020 for you to save any later pointless discussions that may come up with the retailer you use.
I was meant to post up measurements from before and after install but during our house move I seem to have misplaced the original ride height figures for the front.
Rear went from 39.2cm down to 35.5cm between centre of wheel and lower edge of fender arch.
After two months the springs have settled by another 4mm in the
front to 34.6mm
* and 3mm in the
rear to 35.2cm
*.
* Measurement taken between wheel centre and fender edge.
Tyre to fender gap is now 1.5 fingers in the front and 1.25 in the rear.
This is how the car sits now (not that the 3 & 4mm difference can be seen, but it's always nice to post a pic anyway!);
Sorry about the flash reflections on the car, but I don't have a great still camera and need the flash to counter the sun here and stop the red being all washed out.
It still looks outstanding!
Interesting about the ride height settling another 3 or 4mm. Can you feel any difference int steering? That may be enough camber change to warrant an alignment check.
Thanks! It made a hell of a difference to the look of the car and I didn't expect such a visual impact.
TBH the 3-4mm may be less or more as the first time I didn't have access to tape and a good location to spend time scrabbling on the floor.
With the allignment being done immediately after install I think it should be fine and steering feels perfect, however I've not driven the car a great deal lately.
that's very interesting.. I installed Eibachs a few months ago and the front has a gap of ~ 1/2 finger while the back is ~ 1 1/2 fingers. I was always under the impression that H&Rs gave a larger drop than the Eibachs. Oh well, too late for me now...
So the H&R drop the rear lower than the front, and the Eibachs drop the front more than the rear. Am I correct? If true, looks like the Eibachs would provide a better handling car.
Nice and clean look of the
Cayman
.
This is definitely my
next
mod after my wheels.
You got a really good deal on the price of the springs and install. My dealer here in Toronto is charging almost $1200 with install and alignment. Install and alignment would alone be $800. I think for a set of springs that is quite a bit of money. If I didn't have a CPO I would have gotten it done elsewhere.
Keep up the good job!
On my car the difference is minimal and so I doubt it makes much of a difference in reality.
What I was happy with is that the overall look is even, and I really need to check with the technician which did the work if he used any shims or not....will check tomorrow.

You will likely be better off just doing a Google search for the type of images you are looking for and adding planet-9.com or ********.com to the end of the search. This should take to you to many other sources and existing images on the forums if all you are trying to do is see what the car looks like. I found many H&R lowered
981
Caymans
doing this below. My
981
is also on H&R Sport springs, and my only warning is just be aware this will lower the car more than any factory
Porsche
suspension option will, even the X-73 Sport suspension.
In retrospect I prefer the looks of the X-73 suspension better which is about 1 inch lower than the standard suspension and plan to change mine out at some point. My car is 1.8 inches lower than the factory standard suspension and needs to be at least .5 inches or so higher than it is now in the rear. The required labor/cost to do just spring swap on the
981
is practically the same as doing a full suspension swap or coilovers, so choose wisely
