Suggestion

Disconnecting the module will always turn the light out because the inputs and power to the light are cut off, BUT those control units are notoriously faulty so I think you're going in the right direction.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

1989 911 Cab, Top works fine; Top warning light goes off when top is down but doesn't go out when top is up. Front motors latch all the way. If I disconnect the control module and reconnect, warning light goes out, but if I open and close the front latch motors, light comes back on. I've pulled the control module to view the condition of the solder points. Is this the right direction? Everything else seems to work fine, other than the notorious warning light issue... __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here:

POST 2Original post

Disconnecting the module will always turn the light out because the inputs and power to the light are cut off, BUT those control units are notoriously faulty so I think you're going in the right direction. Another issue I have seen is when the wiring which runs along the roof breaks cutting the microswitch inputs to the control unit and making the light stay on. I'd say check both of those two things, and you will probably find your answer. Also don't forget the power of a thorough visual inspection. Looking at things pay close attention to things that don't look right. We all have a little mechanical intuition especially on the vehicles we drive often. Let us know how it goes. - Casey
