So the 125K .2 rs is fact, also fact 4.0 for 225K there are rumours that a 4.0 rhd has changed hands for 300K by a dealer, which i'm inclined to believe.

On my CS I run gen 2 RS front sizes (245) and normal 305s on the back (Though the 325 does fit).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Why are you selling guys, You may regret it ? These amazing machines won't be coming along anytime soon, last of the best ever Porsches !!! Who could argue with that !!!
This is getting silly. Dick Lovett sold an identical spec car for 94k about 3 months ago. Will someone pay that? Maybe, but will they regret it. Almost definitely.
Absolutely classic short termism from car salesman. Sell a car and ask 10k more for the next one, this is how bubbles form. I bet its SOR too.
I didn't but even allowing for that it doesn't warrant a 30k (30%) difference, maybe 3k tops.
This is making hay while the sun is supposedly out. More likely is its a small number of speculators trying to make a buck. IT WONT LAST.

I'm selling because I won't have any time for rest of this year to enjoy anything other than a quick run out in the countryside on a nice sunny day and I have my 930 turbo for that. I have never been a believer in keeping toys locked away, if you don't use them pass them to the next kid on the block to use and enjoy. Next year I expect I will pick up a 991 GT3 for few months, try the experience and move it on to the next person...
Mine sold a month ago, after being advertised on here for three hours!!! II got back virtually what I paid for it 21/2 years ago, put 8k miles on it, drove most of the UK circuits, Spa, 'ring, had a ball, never missed a beat.
The car is on the crest of a wave at the moment and my decision to sell was based on that, and the lack of use, for a variety of reasons, it would now be getting for the foreseeable future. They are an amazing car, but I also believe the the wave will fall as the seasons progresses and new sorted GT3 hits the tracks...
If I have the right car (which I'm 99% sure I do because of the yellow seat belts and non red pull door handles) then the owner offered this car to my dad for a lot less than that in August last year but then decided not to sell.
I guess he made the right decision to hold onto it a little longer.

I know of two other Aqua Blue cars that were sold very recently for less than £100k. One was OPC Hatfield car and another private sale on here.
Interesting JZM car was sold in December with 9500 miles at £101,900 (still on their website). Now re-advertised with 12,000 miles (and additional trailer) for £116,900 !!!
I find it hard to justify these rapid price increases in such short space of time, despite so called supply and demand economics. Dealers are having you on !
I bet any money as well that these cars are on SOR ... there is no way dealers would be be buying them anywhere near these levels. You are starting to see increasing buyer resistance, just the fact that these cars haven't sold overnight I think proves that ..... its all madness, people need to wake up and smell the coffee

Something is worth what someone is willing to pay. The demand for these is high, and I know people are willing to pay very good money for them.

May I add the trailer is in almost new condition (cost £6500.00 last year) with £2.5k of spare parts and tools that were not with it originally and 2 brand new sets of tyres plus some very lighly worn ones. So the increase is not as large as it looks on the face of it. Maybe 5% uplift in actual car price between when I bought it (in November - dead GT3 time to April - prime GT3 time)..... not greedy just realistically priced given the time of year and extras
Anyone followed 360 CS prices? I was offered one for just over 100k less than a year ago. I unfortunately turned it down, and within 6 months, they were selling for north of 150k and I can't see that changing anytime soon. So I don't really see the issue with the market waking up to any of the RS'. Especially when you consider that a 4RS has never (and I doubt will ever) be below list price.
The doom mongers have been knocking prices for some time now and all the while they've kept rising. It's hard to call the top of any market but it's also hard to say that a desirable asset, in short finite supply, is going to be worth a lot less at some point in the future. History doesn't support that with rare desirable cars.
Correction at some point? Maybe. Permanent diminution? Doubt it.

Very much this!
I think the 3.8 RS prices have been dragged up by 4.0 prices.
In turn they're pulling up 997.1RS to the level of the 997.2RS, seen the prices of 996GT3's...
996 GT3RS only available in Mk2. As above, just over 100 came to UK.
Going rate £90k-£100k now, maybe more. That's the trouble now, these cars are selling before needing to be advertised so there aren't any adverts to show the current value.
ETA - Not that advertised prices are proof of current rate, but with the rare stuff it's usually somewhere near.

True enough, though the global production of the 996 RS was much lower I think, as it was never sold in North America.

A friend has just turned down 260k for his 4.0RS and 130K for his 6RS.
I wouldn't sell my 4.0 RS for 300k, the 996 RS at 130k would be tempting. Its a great car but just not that useable, needs the right road or circuit.
I believe the 996 RS that had a 130k offer was low miles.
a lot of rich foke about if 300k and 130k is not enough to sell a 120 and 65k car.
420k would come in quite handy atm :-) alass I don't have those cars to sell and sold my GT3 way to early/cheap ;-( as it prob gone up 10k in the last 12 months, but then I want to get out and drive my cars.
130k 6RS with 2k miles on it just seems pointless as you cannot put miles on it if it's an investment.

There's no way your 6GT3 would have been worth £50k at this moment in time, remember it would have needed a £10k refresh at least
It was 260 and 130 that was turned down. I said I wouldn't take 300 for the 4.0 - that's because I love it and there are no guarantees I'd be able to get another. Stupid prices but people are getting greedy and thinking with their wallets. I don't think it'll last however I don't want to bet my 4.0 on it, the upside isn't good enough as I doubt they'll ever be 150k again.

it had 9k miles but probably the same theory applies
I'm starting too look for a GT3 maybe CLubsport but don't really want to go over £75k at the moment there are 2 cars both black one with 19,000miles and another in the right spec but £85k.
I can help but think prices will soften agreed not a lot when the new 991 get going I woudl then hoep the £75k cars are lates 60's etc...

When was the 4.0 £120k? No chance of them ever being £120k.

120 was about base list price, doubt many were delivered at that price new though.
That's mine the 85k black one. Cracking car. I want to keep it. Shouldn't be an issue selling it at that price after this revelation.
I'd like to meet the guy that just paid 25-30k overs. I wonder what he was thinking. He will be waiting years for the upside on that and more likely downside to be honest.....

That spec car retailed for 120-130K, no more sticks EVER and only 4K on the clock, but you say it's overs. I don't think so pistol, I think that if someone wants a top car then they have to get them when the opportunity arrises and for that lucky person it's now. Tell me what you think comes close to that car for that money be it in or out of production...........

How rare are the 3.8RS's ?
Ironically, in the UK they aren't actually much rarer than the 3.8 non-RS. About 140 came in to the UK according to the DVLA but only about 120 are still here
(There are only about a dozen more non-RS 3.8s still here, being as it was the model where much of the market waited for the RS. With collectability meaning that only the RS values are going silly, 3.8 Clubsports are the ones to buy to shamelessly put miles on).

Most likely someone to whom that isn't a lot of money who simply wanted one now. Someone looking for investment value would surely be trawling the continent for left hook 4 litres... ?
£110k for low mile 3.8RS in rare colour? I'm not surprised it sold fast, especially after the 991 GT3 debacle. A future proof buy with manual gearbox and makes a lot more sense than a £250-300k 4.0RS.
Pistol, did you not start this madness off by paying a fairly hefty sum for green 997.1 RS? Selling your 997.2 3.8CS to replace with a 3.8RS? Looks a good buy for someone.
I did pay 100k for a green 997 RS but there are only what, 11 of them? Its a pretty iconic colour and car to me at least.
It's just my opinion but I feel that a 997.2 RS is 95k one month and 125k two months later. Doesn't make sense to me but I'm glad you don't have a problem with it, especially as I have several rare Porsches currently in my garage. I know who to call when I want to sell.

You sound like the Jose Mourhino of rare Porsche ownership
Consider myself more of a Moyes judging by how out of touch I am with the market.....
Fact is I know I could get into a 3.8 RS for under 100k by the end of next week. And for a decent car too. This is the issue, the market is skewed by exceptional deals. I don't mean exceptional in a good way either.

I'm flattered but no I don't think I started this...although I will say Porsches always did seem cheap to me relative to Ferraris etc - and they are much better cars.
Hi Guys I am new owner of the Silverstone car and yes the Bar has now been lifted. The cars are worth what someone is prepared to pay and I was prepared and bit the bullet hard.In reality though if now given the choice would people be prepared to buy a new gen 2 stick shift at list price if available?,its not going to happen!! so whats the next best option? I have pratted about over the last year being offered first refusal on a 4.0 discussed on here @ £205k and first refusal an a lovely grey/red gen 2 sub 1000 miler @£103k.That ship sailed and I didnt want to miss the next one .Hindsight is a great thing but a 964/993/996rs at list would be a steal lets see what the future holds maybe a loss may be a gain who really cares ,I dont...cheers guys
Congratulations Keith!
It looks like a fantastic car and if you're happy with the price you paid and have got what you wanted then that's a great result all round. Enjoy driving it.

113 GB cars of only 682 worldwide. That's an accurate estimate for low mileage cars. I know of two selling within that price range in the last month or so.

The irony is that the buyers of these cars (us) mostly aren't saving up every penny to buy them , it's like reverse depreciation.
The price will most likely go up over time because they are rare and have things about them we won't see before, each model of the rare ones do yet if we bought a brand new range rover or Mercedes S class and traded it In a few years the offers would be shocking...
We all like discussing the market and how mad we think it is but the fact remains rare Porsches appreciate exponentially, in spite of adding miles and years. Most luxury cars don't......
I wish i had spoken to the salesmen on here before speaking to opc as their price was simply not negotiable.Their attitude was take it or leave it and dont even travel if wanting to bid!!!I have a couple of F cars that have been massive in terms of appreciation on paper if I want to make myself feel better about paying big for my RS or make a fast buck,However its all irrelevant as they are all Keepers. I was perfectly willing to pay the difference between buying a good car at Opc premium with 2.5 years warranty to a track hero/story car privately..I appreciate money is money but sometimes we all need to remember we only live once..Just need to driveway and garage doors now to take delivery

Thank you for posting and well done on getting your great car. What you say sounds great logic to me, if it drops in value well so be it, it will never be normal car depreciation but you will always have the pleasure in knowing that you have an extremely rare rhd car (less rhd than lhd 4.0) that you can enjoy whenever you so desire, be it looking at it or driving it.
Love to see it and maybe them rare F's !!!
d16rr said:

…which also corresponds to the relative demand so I don't think you can use this as a benchmark
Since the 991 RS debackle 997 GT3s including the 4.0 have virtually been swept up by demand. There is only one 4.0 on mobile.de for 250k. Lets see what happens when the 991 GT3 is back on the road - then prices will probably normalise.
hornbaek said:

I'm not sure this is strictly true; I don't think that the majority of 997.2 GT3 RSs are being bought by disgruntled or frustrated 991 GT3 purchasers and that when the 991 GT3 woes are sorted out the pool of buyers will diminish greatly. The cars are quite different and perhaps appeal to different people.
The 991 GT3 is every day usable – and many are buying it for that reason, to my mind the 997 RS is a ‘high days and holidays’ sort of car whose use is to be savoured.
And of course, without wanting to open up another huge debate, there is the Mezger and the manual gearbox angle to this whole demand and supply thing…

Well. just had a firm and credible offer on my 2010 RS.2 ( full load of options apart from PCCBs).
Had the car for four years exactly. Sold it for 83% of original price, which seems reasonable. Car is perfect. Market in North America is a little different ,but very easy to sell them. Plenty of buyer interest.
Four years of fun,5% depreciation a year.
Of course, it may continue to go up, but I will settle down and keep the green RS.1 forever and wait now till the 991RS shows up in 2015 to join it.
So the 125K .2 rs is fact, also fact 4.0 for 225K there are rumours that a 4.0 rhd has changed hands for 300K by a dealer, which i'm inclined to believe. Quite a few years ago one Rodney Marsh said a footballer would take home 100K p/w now proven fact. He put it out there and people laughed ! so how about this Poschenuts - By 2020 the market will say RS4.0 600K - RS3.8 400K - RS3.6 250K and if you own these cars will they be seen on a track ??? Another consideration is 3.8 and 3.6 are still no higher than their rrp so that would suggest that they need to get over that marker first. Just putting it out there for debate don't shoot me peeps
Well why would you suggest that cars are only going to go up? Might they not go down or even stagnate? If you're looking at that rate of appreciation why not sell everything you own and buy cars? I can't think where else you can see that kind of return.....
FWIW I did get offered 325 the other day for my 4.0 - pointless really. I won't sell it. I don't want it going to someone who will just waste it. Even if they do go stratospheric (which they won't in my opinion) I won't sell. Because its a car and I love driving it. And no a 3.8 isn't nearly as good. It really isn't.
I also think 3.8s are enjoying a burst while its summer and there are none on the market. The 991 RS will have to have an impact on those prices too. A few people I know of through dealers will trade their 3.8 for a 991RS when the time comes.

Well why would you suggest that cars are only going to go up? Might they not go down or even stagnate? If you're looking at that rate of appreciation why not sell everything you own and buy cars? I can't think where else you can see that kind of return.....

I also know a few who will only add to their 3.8RS with no intention to sell. In fact most people i know who can afford the cars tend to be intrigued by the 991 RS but will most certainly hold on to the 4.0/3.8 997 RS. It's as you say, i won't lose money on the RS, I could see if the 991 RS is indeed great. In any case, 2 different cars. The 1 thing that could change all this is if the new 991 RS has a manual option. But, unlikely i think.

Not so sure, I have a 3.8RS so I'm perhaps biassed, but I went into a Porsche dealership a few weeks ago, and it felt like I was in an Audi showroom, everything is gradually turning VW in there, the Macan is a Q5, the Cayenne a Q7, the 991 does look great, but it would have been developed after VW took control. There are very few 997.2 3.8's and they represent the most characterful of the last true Porsche 911 inmyho.

Agree. all the cars in the showrooms do look very "samey"
No doubt the next Panamera will be based on some future A6 platform, and I wouldn't be surprised if eventually an Audi may be based on a 991 platform, or a Porsche on a Huracan platform, Porsche as we knew it is gone, and the GT3RS is its legacy.

Might well do exactly this...hold onto the 3.8RS and add the 991 to the stable...just have to work out where to park the 991...
Honestly there isn't a number (well a sensible/plausible one). It is my favourite car of all time. If I am wrong about the market and it does continue to go up ad infinitum, then I would just end up sad that I sold the one car I truly loved. I wouldn't pay what people are paying today and beyond. It is irreplaceable as a drivers car. Nothing comes close.
The engine, the steering, the handling, the braking, even the looks are great. Not that the latter really matters to me. Its totally uncompromised, no pretence whatsoever. Just raw performance and ability.

you say you wouldn't sell it for pretty much anything and there's nothing like it, yet you're saying you wouldn't buy one for £300k+ !
the only problem is for those of us who don't have one and can't bare to drive LHD cars in the UK (had a lhd car before and will never have another)
I personally wouldn't spend that on a modern RS, no. It owes me 220k and that is about my limit. Nearly 100k over list. That's enough for me thanks. There comes a point, and we are well past that now, where I just accept that I missed out. Or in this case I didn't.
So to clarify, yes I wouldn't accept 500k or whatever I was offered. All I am interested in is how much I love the car and what I paid for it. Some hypothetical paper/imaginary value is of no interest. Even if it comes in the form of an offer. Cars aren't stocks and shares to me, they are for driving and enjoying. The money would be nice but I'd always miss the car and like I said, there isn't anything that could replace it for me. I'll make money from property and there is tonnes of that out there....not so many 4.0 at sensible money.

That is exactly how most owners of the other GT3 variant feel. Remember everyone has a different financial position. The guy with a 996 GT3 is thinking the same. Say they bought it in the £40ks, now going up, but unless they need the money, nothing gives the same thrill. What would you buy that is as focused for say £55k? CSL? Caterham? Exige? Yes if you wanted to release some funds. Else the 997.2s are still more money as are RSs. And if you continued to sit on your 6GT3 it's not losing money either. And if you could afford it, why would you not just add to the collection instead of selling? It's good as cash (apart from oil running out).
I think all the above reasons, plus seasonality, plus asset prices, plus flaming 991s, plus electronics, plus low bank rates, plus for every house buyer there is a house seller who has made 15%+, means the prices are edging higher. The cycle will slow down and flatten, maybe fall a bit. Not sure it will go back to £35k though.

Dodge Viper (supercharged or ACR), the ZO7(?) Corvette?
Need a bigger garage for those...

It's 120k.
4 months ago when they were 90-95k I had almost convinced myself to upgrade to a Gen2. At 120k no chance. Madness.

RHD GT3RS 3.8 in 2 years - 180K
RHD 991 GT3 in 2 years - 80K
Simple economics driven by scarcity
I shall buy the 991 GT3 in 2 years time. Wonder how much the mediocre 997.2 GT3 will fetch then?

Hi pistolp. Can I ask how many Km's your 4.0 has to get an offer of 325?
The reason for my question is I have a RHD 4.0 with PCCB, lightweight battery and lights, nav, sound plus, phone and a few other options. It's done 2,900 Km's (1,740 miles) and is based in New Zealand. I'm wondering what it's "real" value would be in the UK.
Cheers

So bored of all of these "the prices are ridiculous" etc.
They are made by people who in the most don't own the cars, have never driven them, and unfortunately will probably not.
They are worth the price because they are selling. That is fact, end of.
And then come the '"they are going to catch a cold when the market crashes". Maybe, lucky as some of us might be, we won't!!!! I am guessing it is one of a few assets. Maybe? ( of course a car is not an asset though as a certain few keep telling us).
It reminds me last year of when I bought my 964 3.6 turbo and the usual few told me I was mad for paying just under 70k for it!,
Don't like the price, don't buy it. Why tell us all it's madness. Thank you for your concern, but it's probably the rant of someone who wants one, and can't afford it!!
Quite like the look of jzm 3.6 turbo at just under 200k. Christ, what am I thinking, I will probably lose my house wife and kids if I buy that!!!!!

Good post
It is a tangible/useable asset. The value will fluctuate based on the most basic of rules - supply & demand, based on the macro economic environment.
Porkers/Ferrari a safer bet than most because of worldwide affinity towards the brand and age/economic status of owners.
A 991 GT3 at 80k as someone jested would be a no brainer, and the mediocre 7.3 GT3 was made because of Apolo's post that it is crap compared to the 991 GT3.

Hi
The most a UK car has sold for is 300k, Your car being non UK taxes paid and non UK original delivery is perhaps worth a touch less
than 80% of 300k to a UK buyer.
Assuming vat, transportation etc then your car is worth 240k to me.
Thats a firm offer from me. PM me if interested.

Lol dreamer!
I'll offer 241k and that's also a firm offer. PM me if interested.
JZM popped up on twitter earlier this evening, they have a grey/gold 10k miles car, £122k. My favourite colour combo of the standard options...bit still think the signal car is the daddy!
I think it's the purists who don't like the idea of the PDK only GT3 available and most likely GT3RS that will be launched next year. As Chris Harris said, for every 1 person who might not buy the new GT3, there is probably 3 or 4 who will. I think it's those people who don't want to buy the new GT3 so they are snatching up the last of the manuals.
Nice looking Grey / Red car just come up, another higher asking price than the white / red one sold at JZM but that was higher mileage. Anyone going to snap it up ?
I posted this here as I personally am bemused by the utter tosh being spouted in the other thread.

I have a grey/red one too and love the combo but it's second best to yellow/black combo sold by JZM last year!
