From my experience bolts easily come undone years later even on exhausts, I've never had any problems using Copperslip on bikes and cars used all year round..

I've seen advice against that for the 996 in particular (with logical reasons as to why) so I figured before I buy something it'd be best to see what others are using/recommend (especially ones which are good value for money).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've done a bit of searching, but never really found any specific discussions on this. I've bought a bunch of suspension bits which I intend to fit over the coming weeks now the weather is a bit nicer outside. I've honestly only ever really used copperslip for my current and previous cars. I've seen advice against that for the 996 in particular (with logical reasons as to why) so I figured before I buy something it'd be best to see what others are using/recommend (especially ones which are good value for money). I've seen the following recommended specifically: - Aeroshell 33 - available, ~£20 delivered for a 400g tube - Wurth AL1100 - recommended by Centre Gravity - not the easiest to get - Castrol OPTIMOL / Mollub Alloy - I can't find the 'correct' version of this[/list]

POST 3Original post

Tygris anti seize paste (nickel based) not cheap but can stand up to 1420 C. So good for exhaust applications. https://www.bearings-online.co.uk/i...OsXtPgaR8_sUW3djQozDH9Rf3_-viIpUaAr9NEALw_wcB Mark

POST 4Original post

Wurth AL1100 is available from both bay and Amazon - i also found a local Wurth supplier (Ben Burgess Agricultural Dealer if your in Norfolk) and they ordered it in for me, not cheap but neither is ripping rubber bushes apart when the adjusters seize.

POST 5Original post

Porsche recommend an aluminium based anti seize, Castrol Molub-Alloy Paste TA. There are similar products from other manufacturers. Search the internet for Aluminium Anti Seize. This is what I use.

POST 6Original post

Another recommendation for Wurth AL1100. Used it a lot in motorsport / precision applications but not so cheap.

POST 7Original post

What's wrong with Copperslip then? I've slathered buckets of the stuff over nuts/bolts/screws and years later they still come undone. I've also got a large tub of all Aluminium grease and drench bolts in that happy in the knowledge that that bolts will never give me grief again. I'm from the more is better school of thought! Theoretically different materials might react but I've never noticed it and it seems a million times better than the Porsche no grease method between Ali & steel :dont know:

POST 8Original post

Tefgel is very good, but bloody expensive, Permatex do a very good aluminium or nickel based paste, as do Castrol

POST 9Original post

Copperslip is fine for iron and steel but not Aluminium where it actually promotes corrosion.

POST 10Original post

Thanks Maldren I never realised that. From my experience bolts easily come undone years later even on exhausts, I've never had any problems using Copperslip on bikes and cars used all year round.. It is still a lubricant/grease and with a generous coating there isn't really much of a chance of moisture/air being allowed in to assist corrosion. Clearly without any grease the ali/steel surfaces will corrode and bond so it is much better to use it than not IMO. Like I said I tend to use Aluminium grease now as the large tub of Copperslip finally ran out and I already had the Ali grease. I'm not doubting that better grease for various applications are available but the cost sky rockets and I'm all about VFM.
