Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Believe me, I have replaced a lot of components on my 996 and after spending way too much time
Leading evidence: 'Replace lot of components' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'cable related' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace lot of components' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If the window lowers the correct 10mm, the issue is cable related.

Before I jump into a door project to replace a micro switch, is there a way to reset the "auto" drop/raise window function on my 996?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Before I jump into a door project to replace a micro switch, is there a way to reset the "auto" drop/raise window function on my 996?
The right side door seems to have lost it's mind after the battery was run low and had to be recharged. Since, it won't drop or raise when the inside or outside handle is used.
Thanks!

Lower the window and hold the switch for ~10 seconds after it reaches the bottom. Then raise the window and hold the button for ~10 seconds after it reaches the top.
Don't know if it will help but it is free to try.
I did the calibration / learning step and it erased the "drop" function. From what I can find, and input from here and on Rennlist, I suspect I have a micro switch issue.
You have my support. I have done so much work on m 996. But the one thing I threw in the towel on was the damn window problems.
I bought motors and regulators and removed the door panels. I marked the glass and did all the
things I was taught on "youtube".
Believe me, I have replaced a lot of components on my 996 and after spending way too much time
on the widnows... I took it to a Porsche (independent) joint and said... "Make these damn
\windows work."
They work. Screw trying to mark the glass and all the other crap....
Pay "em and it's done.
If you don't listen to my advice. Good luck sucker.
I can appreciate that and I'm getting some experienced help to look at this tomorrow. This car has too few miles for a passengers door regulator to be worn out and symptoms don't seem right for that problem so we're going for the handle switch.
I'll let you know how it turns out.
It's fixed....
No, it wasn't any of the micro switches, which surprised me. The way to determined that is to listen to the door from the outside when the handle is lifted. If the door handle micro switch is working, the window tries to lower and you can hear the motor. If you can hear the motor, the next step is to carefully press down on the top edge of the window. If the window lowers the correct 10mm, the issue is cable related. This was the case with my passenger's door.
As we disassembled the door for the repair, it was evident we were the first to take the panel off. There was no sign of a previous repair or any accident damage. I'm only guessing but I suspect that at some point in the car's life a dent repair effort may have happened and this cable was accidentally kinked. And it eventually got to the point it wouldn't fully operate correctly. Just a guess.
