If you drive your car in an environment that is outside the norm then you will want to check the filter more frequently.
Leading evidence: 'Check filter more frequently' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check filter more frequently' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Echoing the concern already expressed, I live off of a long dusty gravel road and fear that the oil based filter will rob horsepower if not kept clean (oil and dust = mud= restricted airflow).

Others said to make sure you clean the drop-in filters cause the oil get gunked up.

If you are going to clean the filter when it gets dirty, we recommend having an extra filter on hand so that you can run a clean filter while the dirty filter dries after the cleaning process.

Clean process of the filter is actually pretty time consuming

The cleaning process of the filter is actually pretty time consuming because you have to make sure that the filter is completely dry before re-installing it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I cant find with a search the discussion on the EVO on the new board.
Can you do the EVO without the chip flash. Will it actually add HP or is just hype (not all claims are always true)?
Comments? PPL have Evo without GIAC?
Any other CAIs out there for the CS?
You must not be looking very hard there has been an ongoing topic in the last week regarding CaymanW's EVO + GIAC flash dyno chart.
Try searching again, look for posts by CaymanW and I bet you find it...
I read that thread but it said EVO + GIAC.
I asked:
Can you do the EVO without the chip flash. Will it actually add HP or is just hype (not all claims are always true)?

I was trying to find out ppl who have not the GIAC tuning with the EVO. Maybe I read it wrong and he didn't have the GIAC?
I posted the topic earlier because I wanted to do the intake without the ECU tune and the general consensus was it was worth it because of sound and a little better response; but no actual hp testing had be done. The intake isn't actually a cold air intake, the new Porsche's already have "ram-air" intakes, and another reader posted that the intake is superior to just changing to a K\N or BCM filter because the intake creates a "venturi" suction effect. I'd love to see an dyno chart of just the intake alone though as I am stuck between just changing the filter or getting the Evo V Flow.
Apologies for not understanding your original question. As far the EVO intake alone when the techs at Imagine Auto pulled mine out and tried the stock air filter or an empty airbox with no filter and did dyno runs to see how it compared to the EVO intake filter the EVO made the most horsepower, followed by the stock filter, followed by an empty airbox. I don't remember the exact numbers but it was probably 5hp at most in that situation. An air filter alone isn't going to net you as much gain as an air filter combined with other items like ECU tuning and/or exhaust. I'd say get it more for sound if you want it and if you pick up 3, 4 or 5 HP as well, hey all the better.
I've done this mod without a GIAC chip. I think they say it's worth 8hp. Sounds better, but I don't know that you'll feel it. I don't think you'll "feel" anything under a 25hp bump. It's like the Johnny Cash song, "One Piece at a Time".
Another question ....
I've read about Evo now and also K&N or BMC filters (just drop in). K-Man said watch out for excess oil on the Evo. Others said to make sure you clean the drop-in filters cause the oil get gunked up.
So what's the deal? If I drop in a BMC am I going to have to actually go clean the thing every couple of months vice how long will the OEM air filter last before needing to be replaces
Basically, I'm pretty lazy and the idea of going through the trouble of getting at that air filter to clean it would seem to be an aggravation vice a car with the engine up in the bonnet.
Suggestions? Comments (yeah lazy me, I know that part)
-if it's anything like a K&N (media soaked in oil) then no. When the K&Ns are shipped the filter is saturated in oil, and you should wipe of the excess oil before installing. You can wrap it in a paper towel and let it soak up the oil overnight. Excess oil has caused MAF problems in quite a few differant types of cars. once you do this you shouldn't need to mess with it until it time to clean and re-oil.
So for those with the EVO, how often do you need to clean and reoil? Is this something a dealer will do during a normal service once/year? Sorry for the newbie question but I have no desire to pop the engine cover for DIY.

Echoing the concern already expressed, I live off of a long dusty gravel road and fear that the oil based filter will rob horsepower if not kept clean (oil and dust = mud= restricted airflow). Should there be a more agressive cleaning schedule for extreme conditions? Or should this be avoided in these conditions?
You are not wrong in your thoughts. If you drive your car in an environment that is outside the norm then you will want to check the filter more frequently. That usually means letting is sit overnight to completely dry out before re-oiling."

For those who are worried about the EVO filter clogging up a bit and reducing power later on, you might want to consider that it will not be any worse in comparison to the OEM filter! You dont really have anything to loose except some dollars maybe.
Disagree. Oil plus dirt will be more restrictive then without oil. You can try this at home with a coffee filter. HP will be less if you don't clean it. Which is why a lot of folks don't use oil based filters.
