Guess you will need to drop the gearbox, The seals won't be that expensive, probably worth changing the RMS at the other end while it's out.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I took my 2001 C4 to my local garage this morning as I noticed a oil leak at the weekend. Got the car on the car lift and discovered that the leak is from the gearbox but not the end that connects to the engine, it's at the other end of the gearbox, what's annoying about this is I didn't take photos of the leak while I was under there. The mechanic said it's a seal that's gone.
Is this a big job to do, maybe the good thing about this is it's at the other end from the engine. Anyone with any thoughts on repairing costs will be appreciated

I'd consider a clutch change, gearbox oil (& filter if it's a tip) and have a look at you IMS bearing for good measure
Demort may be able to give you a rough estimate for dropping gearbox I suspect you would be looking at £300/400 for seals complete.
Good luck
Had the IMS, RMS and clutch done 1000 miles ago when I purchased the car so that end is ok, shame the gearbox has to be dropped, I thought you could get to the seal from the other way.
Lower the gearbox on a stand , remove the propshaft ... remove the flange then oike out the seal and knock in a new one ..
Seal removal tool will be required .
I would expect you to be charged in the region of 3 hrs .. 2 would be sensible depending on garage workshop equipment but i wouldn't argue with 3 .
The seal is no.3 in the image .
