Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Long time reader, first time poster. Thinking of taking the plunge, you all know the story...blah, blah, blah. Just wanted to get a warm fuzzy before I go and take a look at this one.

If it can be had for around $24-25K, I may be in. It's at a Bimmer dealer so looking for some advice on whether to go with a PPI from somewhere or asking for an extended warranty--maybe taking it to 100K miles...thoughts? Interior isn't the greatest, and I couldn't make my mind up on exterior colors, but something about the wheels/black/cinnamon brown on this one is striking my fancy.
Cheers,
nut
Rough looking and lightly optioned. The trunk release **** is missing, shift **** looks really beat up. Top looks pretty abraided on rear left side. I think you could do better, much better! BTW the interior color is Savanah.
Thanks, Nick. By "better" do you mean a better price on this car, or continue the quest and look elsewhere? I agree with you about the interior. My wife inquired with the dealer yesterday and they said something to the effect of wheels are expensive, redone interior can be done for $1K ballpark. I think they're out to lunch as far as that price goes.
Looks pretty beat up for 45k miles in my opinion. If it were me, I would look for one that has been treated better.
Check out this one:

Maybe some local member can do a quick look for you, just start a new thread..... before spending a PPI. car does look beat up and not cared for....but those pics really suck....
I much prefer the 99' savanna over the 2001... there were pieces in graphite to offset the color... in the later ones its ALL savanna..to much,
this car looks rough...and overpriced
I could point out flaws but overall it shows a lot of wear for 45k plus I personally dont like the side skirts without the nose and tail, looks heavy in the sides then add the US stock ride height and those wheels
yea maybe they cost $1k but if they were not on there and you had OEM porsche wheels, they cost at least $1k maybe more...so whats the point of telling you the wheels are expensive! Price a new set of OEM's.. I bet $1k gets you 1-2 wheels
this car would be low on my list, and the price being what is is... even lower
and as Ferd said, those pics SUCK !
Look around, pass on this. Consider it only if you're looking for a daily beater, it checks perfectly mechanically with a PPI and you can get it for $17-$18500. A pristine car can be found and paying a bit more can be justified. The condition you find the car in now will have a lot to do with resale down the road. More spent now means more received when you sell. Best advice, BE PATIENT. I've been looking for a nice car since July '10, more seriously lately. My last 996 took 15 months. GL!
Thanks fellas. Wife is getting antsy--think she wants one of these more than me. If I was any closer we'd take a look at Dell's Cab for sale in NC; but we wanted to check out the Arena Red color up close so went down to our local dealer. Test drove an 04 Cab, then looked at a 99. Don't have any pics to post but it's more in my price range. Nicely optioned, full leather, new top, aluminum dials, 67K miles--one of the wheels has some road rash and the seats are just okay. They just got it in as a trade this week so it hasn't been through service yet apparently--the salesmen was hesitant to show it to me lest I get a bad view. Offered them $25K out the door--Will get a PPI next week. Will post some pics when able. Fingers crossed...
curbed wheels can be fixed, seats should all be replaced with GT3 Euro or equivelant
make sure the dealer selling it is NOT the one doing the PPI - just my .02
