Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone One of the tensioning cables on my 2000 MY 996 Cabriolet has snapped. It's one of the cables that run down the length of the soft top, along and over the side windows (one on each side). Now that the cable has snapped the roof is rucking up towards the rear of the near side window and not sitting in the channel as it would normally. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Is it repairable? If so, any idea of likely costs? Thanks in advance Martin

POST 2Original post

I believe it is a fairly common problem, and yes, it is reparable with a new cable. According to the manual you have to take off the top covering (book time is 1.6 hours) and the cables are £48+VAT each. The top mechanism should be recalibrated after replacement, using a Porsche tester.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Richard. That ties in with some further research I did today. Cheers, Martin
