Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After work today I though, I know I'll give her a wash and a fresh coat of graphene polish. Bearing in mind my car is pretty much tip top lol. So......it's sat idling and what's that I hear, sounds like water pump grumbling away. Great. So, pull into shed to dry her off, pop bonnet and o/s headlight falls out :floor: FFS. Anyway, the bow/rod end that turns with the socket is rounded off so the headlight won't clip in properly. Oh well I though, I'll get a new tray assembly. Onwards and upwards. Oh, while I'm there I'll check why the washers are rubbish. And.....the washer jet has just come apart in my hand from a previously botched repair. At this point, sod it I'm going home. Drive home and clang clang from n/s/f. Oh EXCELLENT. So I'm 1 hour my car has decided to be really high maintenance. Time for a G&T.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ooh yes. Had a panick earlier, thought we had run out of tonic. Panic over, found some left over from Christmas.

POST 4Original post

The gift that keeps on given 🤭 I've spent lots of time and money on mine the last 2 years, my first run this week 'sh#t what's that noise' surely can't be anything else!! Seems to be all good now 150 miles in, guess it doesn't like being parked up! No G&T here I'm on the Skol till I can open up at work 🤘 Hope you get you lamp sorted 👌

POST 5Original post

The joys of 996 ownership. At least they are generally easy to work on. MC

POST 6Original post

I seem to find nothing throws up a £1000 worth of work like a 'hmmmm I haven't had to spend anything on the car for months" thought...

POST 7Original post

Wouldn't change anything, great cars and like MC says fairly easy to work on 👌

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Indeed guys, proper old school so really easy to work on. I'll sort water pump next week after work. It's my daily but only a short journey so will keep my ear/eye on it. Worst case scenario I'll take my daughter's car to work. It's funny but whenever it needs a job doing I get a strange sense of looking forward to to it. I feel like the custodian of sla fine old house :floor:

POST 9Original post

😅😅 absolutely 💯 very satisfying once done ✔ last of the old school cars with abit of modern technology

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Absolutely, I had a 930tbo 3.3 and great as it was to look at, absolutely awful to try and live with. Non existent heating/de mist, in the rain it was miserable. Brakes.........erm. Handling.......erm. The 996 does everything well, air con, braking is excellent, comfort, handling is great. Hilariously over geared but can't have everything. They are actually quite quick but the gearing really takes the edge off the performance imo. Anyway, all in all a great analogue Porsche. Perfect balance between old and new.

POST 11Original post

Oh mate, what joy. There's always something that needs fixing it seems! Keeps us all out of mischief.. well some of us anyway 😁

POST 12Original post

Agree, but most modern cars are over geared for sure, maybe it was the start of the economy era.... 3rd gear is emence 👊

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Indeed it does mate, well, some of us

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

3rd gear does go on for a while I'll give you that :floor:

POST 15Original post

2nd is all you need on UK roads! You'd get some funny looks cruising on the M6 though!
