My brakes are squealing under hard braking and I get it only get during the last 5 meters of the braking distance.
I don't get it when I depress the brake pedal initially nor under normal braking.
I am figuring that it might just be the pads wearing thin but I wanted to check with you guys.
Does anyone have any advice for me?
Depends on how many miles you have on the car - I'm still on my first set of pads after 23k miles and 15 autocrosses and 5 DEs.
I know you don't want to hear this - but please do a search though the "complaints" section only and you'll find that this is one of the most discussed topics on the Cayman Club.

I participated in prior posts on the subject, with frustrated candor. However, I just hit 2,500 miles on the OD, and the brake squealing has gone away. Yahoo!!!
I can get a slight squeel just before I stop if I do too much light braking in stop and go traffic. They get a slight glaze/sheen on them. If I brake a little harder a couple of times it goes away
oh yeah... i should include the mileage.... its about 7.5k KM (~4.7k mi)
thanks for the advice, beez.
i did a search previously but didnt find anything related to my problem spefically.
if you know of a specific thread that might help me, do let me know.
with my mileage i would expect my pads to be bedded in by now but would be too early for the pads to wear out.
thats why its quite puzzling.
maybe i should bring it to my mechanic and get it checked out.
would really hate it if its a rotor problem.
u keep the brakes on when you stop at the lights, or do you use the handbrake?
Yes, kinda strange. Porsche uses pretty good measures to keep their large brakes from squealing. You could just have some glaze or some foreign material "welded" on the rotor. If you got the time take it in and have the dealer look at it. They aren't supposed to do that.
my CS have 65xx miles and the brakes squealing lightly everytime I stop, I got used to it, so maybe its normal.
i do both but mostly on the brakes.
does that make a difference?
i will probably find time to bring it in and see if they can track down the gremlin.
Unlike Mercedes ML pads, Porsche stock brakes do not squeal by default. THat being said, disc brake squeal remains the hardest issue to solve.
So many things cause brake squeal, which is actually high frequency vibration in the brake system, any part of it.
You're lucky if your brake rotors have brake material spread unevenly, hard braking 100-30 5 times (after the brakes are warmed up already) at the limits of tyre adhesion will do well to service that.
If it fails, you may want to resurface your rotors. A good shop with its own lathe is ideal, Keng Teong at Sin Ming Autocare centre does just fine. You can resurface until your rotors are 22mm thick, that's quite a few resurfacings you can do.
During the rotor resurface, check your pads - are they glazed? If they are change them. Much cheaper than at the authorised dealer. After pad change and/or rotor resurfacing, bed them in - warm them up sufficiently then do 10X 100-30kmh at the limits of adhesion and you're done (or when your discs start smoking, whatever comes first).
When the brakes are hot please don't use the brake when stationary, use the handbrake.
