Check Engine Light came on last Friday, called Porsche Dealer & took it in today for a quick computer scan. Found Cat Converter on Bank 1? defective. Parts on order to replace.
Any other members have this experience?
Mine is 2006 CS with only 7000Km.
Thanks.
I had a CEL for cats come on. They removed them, did further testing and reinstalled. That was many miles ago - say 7,000. and all has been well.
Try searching the site for similar problems. I know some folks had to get the cats replaced. Early 2006 cars did have problems like that. Some were defective, and other lights trigged because of fuel sitting in them on the trip over, if I recall correctly.
You are kidding right? This was the #1 reported problem for 2006 Caymans. It has to do with early production cars having 400cel cats and different programming that was less tolerant. Your dealer will replace them with 600 cel cats which usually solves the issue, if not they can also flash you to the newest ECU version which has more tolerant programming.
I'll let Santa Fe point out the prior topics where this was discussed.
For whatever reason, MUST have missed it until it happened to my car.
Separate issue, the selling dealer MCL Motors (only dealer in Greater Vancouver) will not be able to service the car until Jan 7th due to backlog. Can you believe that.
It isn't anything serious, you can get a code reader and clear the codes yourself until you can get your car serviced if the CEL is bothering you. This should give them plenty of time to order in new manifolds with 600 cel cats for you.
Same problem happened to me. Code tripped after the first 1,500 kms. Dealer changes the O2 sensor, did not work. They then replaced both header/cats. Problem gone. I drove 12,000 kms with the bad cats with no issues. I now have 2,000kms on the new cats and have not tripped a light. Porsche of Halifax was great about the whole issue. Hats off to them....
