If you're replacing the clamps then just angle grind off the cat/backbox connections.

I was planning to replace the hanger brackets and plates that bolt to them, but may effect a repair if possible.

I'm going to replace the manifolds and expect to have to drill all the studs so sort of resigned myself to it taking a while.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all It's it possible to drop the whole exhaust system on my 2003 C4S in one go from the engine, after disconnecting cables, mounting points etc? I'm looking at replacing the manifolds, hanger brackets, and all other clamps and brackets so thought that if it all came off in one go it might be easier to do if it was on the floor. Also, what's the best anti seize to use so I might have a fighting chance the next time I have to remove anything exhaust related? Thanks Andrew

POST 2Original post

Don't see why not. The manifold bolts are the only potentially awkard ones, and might be easier to work these with other bits out of the way. MC

POST 4Original post

Once you've got the bumper and hear shields off it's probably easier to get the thing off in stages tbh. If you're replacing the clamps then just angle grind off the cat/backbox connections. The manifold/cat bolts bolts will be blobs of rust so will need cutting off anyway. Then you have the fun of removing the manifolds. getting to the top bolts on the backbox hangers is really tough, not done it myself but they're well out of the way. No point removing he exhaust tips though, they're fine to leave on.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all I was just thinking on saving hassle in not having to remove all the clamps and brackets whilst the car was in the air so to speak. I was planning to replace the hanger brackets and plates that bolt to them, but may effect a repair if possible. I'm going to replace the manifolds and expect to have to drill all the studs so sort of resigned myself to it taking a while. Why did Porsche make the bottom mounting point on the hanger brackets in mild steel and not stainless like the rest of the bracket, may it be a chemical reaction with the alloy of the engine to the stainless, can't see why it would be but they have to have had a reason?
