Good morning everyone.
Need some help trouble shooting a high pitch whine noise.
First of all last night my check coolant light came on. (FYI)
This morning when I was driving down the driveway I was hearing a high pitch whine noise. Sounds like a jet. Not real loud but loud enough to hear with the windows up. I dropped the passenger window and I could hear it much better.
So when I came to a stop the high pitch stops. Start rolling it's right back the minute the wheels start turning. In gear it's there out of gear just rolling it's there. Stop it gone. Seems to be coming from the right side of the car.
The high pitch noise doesnt change when the car is moving faster or slower.
Any idea what the H it might be????
Jeff
The noise could be something simple....like something caught between a brake
rotor
and shield, etc. You might be able to do a quick look around both passenger side wheels to see if something is rubbing or dragging. If you can't see anything obvious, my vote by your described symptoms would be a wheel bearing going bad. A dealer should be able to diagnos and fix it quickly.
The car only has 18,084 miles on her. Would the bearings go bad that fast??
Maybe coincidence with the coolant light and it's not related to the squeal?
Anyway, the time I had a real loud squeal that only occurred when moving, in our out of gear, clutch in or out, etc was when I had a stone catch between the
rotor
and guard. Took me 15 minutes to get it out of there - drove backwards and forwards several times before it dislodged. Same thing just happened this summer to a friend of my daughters and we had to eventually take the wheel off. Could be your problem but then maybe not...
Dropped the car off at the dealer yesterday
Problem was Rear Brake Shoes Glazed
R&R RT Rear APRLING Brake, Clean shoes and lube.
Problem solved
I would take it to the dealership ASAP. I had my belt break and just before it started making a whinning noise. It ended up as a pulley bearing failed. Also I would check your coolant level the water pump is right behind the seat and it could be having problems too.
Is this a mystery thread? The OP states he has an issue, gets feedback on possible causes, then replies that the dealership found the issue and resolved it, and then people keep posting different solutions? Is it just me? Am I missing something here?
LOL! Ooops! I didn't read through all the posts and missed his resolution.
