Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All I have been recommended to join by a member called JTBKK so I thought i would say hello. I have purchased in a December a cheap Seal grey 996.2 carrera2 which has the predictable fault of scored bore on piston 4&6. I know what I wanted a project so the issue of this engine fault didn't bother me I know what i was into. I was also looking for broken Rx7's at the time as well! Other than that there isn't really much else wrong with the car. The previous owner put £3000 into the car to past its MOT in november. I felt I got quite lucky as the previous owner really did look after the car and was really sensible. It seemed like it was just unlucky that he had this come up. He had got to the point where he wanted the car as good as it could be but not commit to the money to get it rebuilt. So I brought it. Ive had the car up on the ramps and the only thing I can see is the exhaust is more rust than metal! So i has in the mean time collected all the collateral pieces that are for a job of this size. New exhausts inc o2 sensors cars and Manifolds new exhaust brackets fittings etc (thanks JTBKK! saved me a few hundred for the studded brackets) new water pump new aos new clutch new flywheel and because I know a very good Porsche parts person new expansion bottle new timing chain set. Now Im at the point what to do about the real issue. Getting the internals rebuilt. After reading some of the recent posts on here I really don't want to cause any arguments. But has anyone had any experience with AMS in herts?? He has been previously very good on the phone and sounds like he offers a different style of product compared to Hartech. What I'm missing or can't find is any actual feedback from previous customers, I have been in contact with Hartech and their email response has been excellent. They are still the ideal choice for me and probably any 996/7 owner outside of USA. Financially its could be a difference of my car being repaired in 6 months from a alternative specialist or 12 months if I go for the real deal Hartech job. So I really want to weigh up the options. The mileage I do would be a maximum of 5k a year which the majority of that would be a European trip if possible. Also I think ill only have the car for 2-3 years. Lastly to avoid anything else. resale values don't really concern me. Thanking you all in advance

Hi Welcome My Brother and I also recently purchased a grey 996.2 (Tip) with a badly borescored engine. See the the thread "Enter the 996.2" There is a lot of expertise on this forum, so good decision in joining! Our case halves went off to Hartech this very morning in fact, so we may well be treading a similar path! Best of luck! Berni
