I've tried adjusting the latch lower, adjust the rubber stops, etc.

I don't know the specifics of the fix but it requires a repair kit (987.512.925.00) for the "balancing weight." I was told the fix should take between 1-2 hours.

Yeah, I've had issues with a chirping sound coming from the driver's side and after a year of back and forth, the dealership finally resolved the issue (had to replace rear quarter window).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

As a follow up to my recent post on this problem I have learned that Porsche has issued
Service Bulletin 537949 Eliminating Noise Symptoms - Reworking Balancing Weight for Rear Lid.
I don't know the specifics of the fix but it requires a repair kit (987.512.925.00) for the "balancing weight." I was told the fix should take between 1-2 hours.
Since parts need to be ordered I suggest that you who have this problem call your dealer ASAP to get in line. I was told it would be a week or so for the parts to
begin
arriving here.
I will post the results for my car and hope everyone else will also so that we can verify that it really works.
The service manager at Cherry Hill Porsche (NJ) tells me to "consider that done" re: TSB 537949. I won't be able to report on the effectiveness of the fix until the end of the month or thereabouts (auto transporter latency) but the car has 19's and no
PASM
so it's an acid test.
Looking forward to my dealers action - I too am 19" with no
PASM
...so far the dealer has been very neutral on the whole issue...no comments except "we'll determine what caused the noise first"...I guess I'm getting prepped for a plumbing job perhaps.
Will see
next
week.
Service Bulletin
Is there any way of finding out what "Service Bulletin 537949 Eliminating Noise Symptoms - Reworking Balancing Weight for Rear Lid" actually says. Could a copy be posted here?
I spoke with Russ from Carousel Porsche today here in Minneapolis (hi Russ!) - he said that he would order the parts. Apparently the bulletin has not reached these shores yet.
I'm very interested in getting my trunk sorted out. Sometimes when I close the trunk lid the booms, clunks, rattles and buzzes stop. Sometimes they are constant. The closing mechanism is fickle.
But I'm optimistic now!
The car in into the 3rd model year. The problem has been there since day one. So now they admit that there is a problem?? My 07 CS bangs, clanks, blams and clunks. And the dealers deny that this exists. Give me a *%%88*^^^ing break.
Too much tinkering with clunks?
All,
I'm curious, my CS has now been in 6(!) times for the various clunks and rattling. Seems they get one (or make no progress at all) and then another rattle comes up. Is this just futile? At one point, does all the tinkering start to create problems?
Thanks...
Yeah, I've had issues with a chirping sound coming from the driver's side and after a year of back and forth, the dealership finally resolved the issue (had to replace rear quarter window). Can't really blame them for taking so long as these things can be difficult to figure out.
As a result though, I do have have a new rattle. It may have developed from the constant removing/installing of side panels. Maybe it was there all the time and it was masked by the chirp. It's not as annoying as the chirp so I'm willing to put up with it.
I figure, given the nature of the car and the stiffness of the suspension, rattles will develop over time anyways. Just look at the Lotus.
Good luck with the rattles.
service notice arrived at west coast
hi,
I just spoke to service department at Niello Porsche. They are aware of the service notice and will be servicing my car next Monday.
My car rattles somewhere behind the driver's seat.. not sure where it came from, window or trunk.
Either my "clunk" has gone away or I just don't notice it anymore. Either way I hesitate to go back to the dealer because they would probably just make things worse.
Perhaps because in winter the compliancy of the rubber is less. I'd guess it will come back when it's hot.
In any case, I had it done on Monday and the clunk plus other rattles which were also addressed in the rear end are completely gone. The only thing you hear going over bumps now is the suspension as it should be.
I took someone's advice on this forum and fixed the clunk myself. Screw in the springs on each end of the hatch so that they are all the way in & close the hatch. Apply pressure from the outside over the latch area. If you are able to push the hatch down then this fix will probably work for you. Remove the cover from around the latch area. Loosen the 2 latch bolts that hold it in place and move the latch down just a little. Tighten the latch bolts back down. Close the hatch and reapply hand pressure from the outside again to see if it still moves. If it is to hard to close the hatch, then you've moved the latch too far down and you need to bring it up a bit. If the hatch doesn't move anymore and feels secure, you are done! You can then lower the tension springs on each end of the hatch a little just to help balance it out. My hatch thump went away with this fix
