Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I use Dewalt 1/2 impact wrenches, use a compact one DCF880 where space is tight and for light duty jobs but also full size unit DCf899 and it has never failed to do the task required of it, small plant and Land Rover work.
Leading evidence: 'Use compact one dcf880 where space is tight' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust airflow and pressure' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The oiler also helps to keep them from rusting up especially when they are not being used on a regular basis.

Suggestion
You will ideally need to adjust airflow and pressure for each tool as they all tend to have different sweet spots for air consumption and pressure.

My Ryobi 18v Max 270nm with a 4a/h battery will undo tight wheel nuts (setting 3 of 3) in a couple of seconds and that is far from the best on the market but I already have several Ryobi tools and One+ batteries.

I have a cheapy old thing in the workshop on the farm for my cars as the bigger stuff will potentially tighten too much and possibly distort threads - bitter experience taught me that you will always forget to drop the pressure when you pick the "windy gun" up after tightening the nuts on a 16 tonne tractor and move onto your pristine 911 alloys.

Suggestion
Might also need to get a bigger diameter supply pipe depending on the tools you are using although it depends on the cfm capability of the compressor as to what is worthwhile.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As I'm refreshing my suspension I thought I would treat myself to a battery (20V) impact wrench 1/2inch and adjustable from 100-400Nm. I've never owned or used one before so I got the car up in the air, the impact wrench bought into use, and nothing didn't undo a wheel bolt, cranked her up still nothing so I set it to 400Nm and I can stop it with my hand easily. That can't be right surely? (I undone the wheel bolts with extendable wheel brace tool).
Its not the most expensive but not the cheapest, got a good write up on the internet so is it fecked?
Which impact wrench did you get?

A long breaker bar will work better but, damn, does it makes removing wheels quick and easy. It saves so much time working on the cars.
Need to be careful if holding with one hand on Max setting though as it will give your wrist a good twist.
I think you have your answer, Lidl own make but sold on eBay!
Numbers alone do not tell the story, there are top brands with much lower Nm figures that are absolute monsters but you pay for the quality.
The few reviews i saw and its not very highly rated im afraid ..
Make sure the battery is well charged is all i can offer .
A guide ...

I got an Einhell Impact wrench £83 and the 4.0ah battery pack it's undone everything on my suspension without even breaking a sweat.
But I suppose if you've already got some cordless tools it's best to go with whatever you have batteries for.
As said above. Unfortunately buy cheap get cheap. That's said my Makita 24v one is pretty good but sometimes needs a crack bar to undo tight bolts!! There is no substitute for an air impact gun imo. I'm sure others might disagree though.
I think there must be something wrong with my compressor and line set up as my air tools are rubbish. I have bought quality tools and a decent SIG compressor but maybe the cheap airlines are letting it down?
Personally I would buy a platform that you can standardise other pieces of equipment or tools, as using the same battery for a multitude of tools is very handy.

That's surprising mate, usually with a decent compressor even a cheap airgun is pretty good. I've got a snap on and Ingersoll Rand gun I've been using for 20 years and the IR gun is still awesome. It's quieter and more comfortable than the snap on gun. Maybe your airline is restrictive?? Anyway, the air gun is better than the battery imo.
Unless you have actual leaks in the line then it's probably more worthwhile to get a decent in-line dual flow and pressure regulator and oiler - the built in gauges and regulators that come with most off the shelf compressors are poorly calibrated and erratic. You will ideally need to adjust airflow and pressure for each tool as they all tend to have different sweet spots for air consumption and pressure. The oiler also helps to keep them from rusting up especially when they are not being used on a regular basis. Might also need to get a bigger diameter supply pipe depending on the tools you are using although it depends on the cfm capability of the compressor as to what is worthwhile.
To the OP - sounds like the one you have is either overstating its output or is faulty. Even a basic bit of kit should be able to spin some wheel nuts off. Not pretty!
Cheers.......Ian
My colleagues use impact guns .. i prefer an old fashioned air gun .. with a decent air supply it will certainly do the job even using the cheapest of guns .
I have a blue point gun .. 30 years old which is still my main gun and an ingersoll rand .. for those stubborn nuts which my tired old blue point is not upto .
For wheel bolts its perfect though .. gun up and i can still use a torque wrench to get the final setting correct .
