Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion · Original poster

Made a start on the suspension refresh but If I decide to lower my C2, 20-25mm will I need to replace the standard drop links to avoid pre-loading the sway bar?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Made a start on the suspension refresh but If I decide to lower my C2, 20-25mm will I need to replace the standard drop links to avoid pre-loading the sway bar? I would of course need a 4 wheel alignment following this. thanks Alan

Nice job! If there in good condition no need to replace them 👍

POST 6Original post

I've been replacing the same parts for my ongoing suspension refresh including H&R anti-roll bars. As a novice learning as I go along, and after much research, I decided to go with OEM drop links. There's no end to "nice to have" parts when going down this rabbit hole, but pre-loading isn't a concern for me even for the occasional track day.

POST 8Original post

I don't think anyone's answered your original question. The sway bar simply connects one side of the suspension to the other, so that when the car loads up and compresses the outside suspension in a corner, it 'pulls up" the inside suspension with it, tending to pull the car to the floor and reduce roll. There is differential movement between one side and the other because the sway bar twists (ie it pulls up the inner suspension less than the outer compresses). All the drop link does is connect each side suspension to the sway bar. So as long as you lower both sides of your car (!) the sway bar will not be under torsion at rest; there is no preload. No need to change the drop links. Having said that, in the extreme, you would want the sway bar to be at the right angle at rest and if you lower the car you might need to address this by shortening the drop links, but this is unlikely to be necessary in practice. Just fit and enjoy!
