I removed the latch mechanism (10 min job) and found the microswitch was fine, and it was the white plastic piece which operates the switch that was sticking, I popped it out and cleaned all the worn dusty plastic off then lubricated it with a tiny bit of grease.

Suggestion
Load and actuate the plastic slider with marine grease until it slides smoothly again and if you can put a 21W or so lightbulb in series with the switch and the car battery and actuate it a few times to electrically clean the switch.
Leading evidence: 'white plastic piece' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). The microswitch which comes complete with its housing is £48 + vat from Porsche if you want to replace the whole thing

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The white plastic part is quite shielded by the microswitch housing so I can understand why spraying wd40 from the latch area didn't work that well, it is much better to take it apart to clean and lubricate it properly.
My luggage lamp has been working intermittently since i got the car. I read on here that you can fix it by spraying wd40 into the micro switch in the front latch, I tried this a couple of times and each time it started to work but only for a few weeks.
I've been doing some winter jobs on my car lately so had a proper go at it the other day. I removed the latch mechanism (10 min job) and found the microswitch was fine, and it was the white plastic piece which operates the switch that was sticking, I popped it out and cleaned all the worn dusty plastic off then lubricated it with a tiny bit of grease. Before hand the white plastic bit was very stiff and didn't move fully, now it is easy to move and very springy and easily operates the switch.

when you refit the microswitch housing to the lock, the lock needs to be in the open position. When I refitted the lock to the car I had to adjust it's position a couple of times to get the bonnet to close nicely
I have seen lots of posts about this problem and the microswitch is often blamed but I don't think the actual microswitch itself is the problem, it is a good quality switch (fully encapsulated and totally waterproof), i think in most cases it will be the white plastic part sticking.
The microswitch which comes complete with its housing is £48 + vat from Porsche if you want to replace the whole thing
Hopefully the fault won't return now and if it does I'll post back

LOL can't believe you've both been on tonight
I'd be happy to but the 150 mile round trip to Solihull kind of put me off, even further to Surrey. It'd be cheaper to buy you one and post it
Let me know if your ever up Norf
Went into the garage today to check all was ok with the ctek and noticed the luggage comp lamp was still working fine and that reminded me of this thread so I looked it up only to find it was 28 Jan 12 that I first fixed it. So just over another four years on and it's still working so I think it's safe to say the above is a good fix lol

I have the same issue with my 996.1 so will try the wd40 route first then
Your disassemble option
Question ? The light in the engine bay also isn't working do you know if it
Is the same system ?
Check your fuses and the bulbs first, the frunk and engine lid lights are on the same circuit, i.e. when the frunk is opened you can see the engine lid light come on too if you look between the gaps in the spoiler and visa versa if you put your phone camera on record leave it in your frunk and open the engine lid you will see the frunk light comes on with that too.
So it would be quite a coincidence if both front and back both failed together so fuse would be the first place to check.
if it is the switch Id reccomend using the WD40 as just a temporary measure until the weather warms up then do a rebuild. Load and actuate the plastic slider with marine grease until it slides smoothly again and if you can put a 21W or so lightbulb in series with the switch and the car battery and actuate it a few times to electrically clean the switch.
