Maybe more like "Happily so far"
As a reminder, my problem started like 6-7 months ago, I had asked about it in
this thread
. For the sake of no one having to go over there, here's an excerpt:
Now after 5 months of negotiations with the dealer, Porsche Middle East, and Porsche AG. They denied any sort of warranty. Although the car was serviced exclusively at the dealer since she had 1000 Kms. Then the dealer quoted me *hold on to your seats*, $50,000 for an engine replacement!!
After the initial outrage on them, they kept messing around saying its not in their hands, etc... However, they quoted me EGP 16,000 for disassembling the engine for diagnosis. However, they said they wont be reassembling it again.
For a while, I started searching for a new engine. The cheapest I found was a used engine in the US for $9000
Luckily, a friend recommended a local mechanic that specializes in Porsche. So I took the car in to him...
He disassembled the engine, down to the crackshaft. It was decided that if the crankshaft was intact, we can rebuild the engine. Otherwise, we'd need a new engine.
Thank God, the craskshaft was ok. It was decided we need the following parts to rebuild:
Rod bearings
Crankshaft bearings.
Piston rings.
Cylider head gasket.
Some misc items, spark plugs, etc...
I ordered these from Suncoast. And I have to take this opportunity to thank Ryan of Suncoast, for bearing with me through my multiple orders, and my several annoying calls. :thanks:
Ryan
!
It took 12 days to reassemble the engine again. I took delivery of her 3 days ago. The mechanic advised me to keep the revs down below 3K for the first 1000 kms. I've so far did 250 of them. I'm still trying her out, and hopefully all is well if God so wills.

Quite a story in pictures! I hope this works out for you....how much did you spend on the rebuild? Was the warranty from Porsche or was it sold locally? The warranty coverage was denied due to the lapse....or other reasons?
My warranty had expired on my Cayman S when the water pump also expired. PCNA picked up half of the tab and I felt that was fair as I was the second owner of the car (also dealer serviced the entire time of my ownership).
Were all the rod bearings bad or just one? You are very lucky you caught it before it did a lot more damage !
Looks like the classic oil starvation to the last rod bearing problem that our cars are known for. I'm sorry Porsche didn't warranty it for you, it will probably take another class action against them to ever get anything back for owners who have had to repair/replace engines. Luckily you found a 3rd party to help and get you back on the road, I hope it all comes out well in the end!
Total was $2900 in parts, and ~$1430 for labour. Total around $4330. It was Porsche warranty, at that time the car was taken in, it was 3 months out of warranty and 4 months/4000km since last service. I had planned to renew during the next service. But alas...
Yes just one. And thank God it was caught indeed!
Hmmm, interesting theory about oil starvation. Everyone I talked to did say its an oiling problem, but just assumed it was because of using mobil 1 because its locally manufactured here and many say its of low quality, so they speculate it got too thin with heat that it caused the bearing to fail.
What would cause oil starvation?!
I'm so glad everything worked out for you.
Thanks very much man. And thanks for you support since the beginning of this ordeal
good that your back on the road.. and you didnt have to pay as much.. must feel forever for the 1000 kms..
But already 600 of them done
"What would cause oil starvation?!"
Uh, see your avatar.
That's cheap, congrats.
DT40 only oil I have 3 cases of it
Augie, Many thanks and good luck to you.
