When I pulled up the seat bottom, I checked the switches on the side, they have power and apparently work, but they only send signals to the memory module under the seat.
Leading evidence: 'Check switches' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check any bolts securing the seat and remove them' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I run the DME report, it says, "Control unit faulty (main relay does not pick up)".

I cannot get to it unless I run jumper wires to the seat motors in order to get to the seat bolts so I can tilt the seat back to get to the screws for the seat memory module.

Suggestion
If thats not visible, check for any bolts securing the seat and remove them to manually move the seat forward.

Suggestion
It costs about $2K and I would have to jury rig the wiring under the seat in order to go back and forward to remove the seat bolts, in order to get the seat out, so I can remove/replace the memory seat module.....not happening.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello rennlist community,
I am fairly new here, so excuse me for my ignorance.
Recently I purchased a 996.2 Carrera 2, but the electric seat is not working. Passenger seat works, hood latch works, and mirror adjustment works—no ticking whatsoever from the seats.
Have someone encountered similar situation? Can I DIY this problem or should I just take it to an Indy Shop? Also, it is in a very uncomfortable position, so I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to manually slide the seat forward.
I'm in the same predicament. My drivers side seat does not move. Good thing - it is in the exact right position. Bad thing - nothing works, no forward or backward, up/down, you get the picture. The memory seat module under the drivers seat is blown somehow, it just does not work. I pulled the seat bottom up to check it and the motors, it has power but does not work. When I pulled up the seat bottom, I checked the switches on the side, they have power and apparently work, but they only send signals to the memory module under the seat. So in the end, the memory module under the drivers seat is blown. It costs about $2K and I would have to jury rig the wiring under the seat in order to go back and forward to remove the seat bolts, in order to get the seat out, so I can remove/replace the memory seat module.....not happening. I would give anything for a simple manual seat adjustment.

. I saw you posting about this problem in 2019 - I'm sorry that you still could not figure out the problem with an inexpensive fix.
I've done some research here for couple of hours today, and your info is extremely helpful. You've seemed to be able to track down the issue for your car. I hope you could chime in your knowledge.
My mirrors work, and my seat does not - can I assume that my power is coming to the memory seat module at least?
Could I narrow my problems down to either fuse, switch, or the memory seat module itself from this info?
In my case, the mirrors have power, the seat switches have power, it is not a fuse, even the seat control memory module has power going to it. It apparently is the under the seat memory control module that has blown. I cannot get to it unless I run jumper wires to the seat motors in order to get to the seat bolts so I can tilt the seat back to get to the screws for the seat memory module. Since I'm in a good position regarding the seat, I'm leaving it alone.
I've got similar problems going on.
I can hear clicking under the seat when I try to push various buttons so I know there's power getting to the seat control module.
When I run the DME report, it says, "Control unit faulty (main relay does not pick up)". This makes me believe it may be the Alarm Control Unit, just below the seat with part number
996 618 262 03.
I've gone on to purchase a full set of motors for both seats and the seat memory control module. I've installed all, have cleared the error and have the same exact issues on the second set of components.
Have any of you found a resolution?
Thanks in advance.
My Passenger seat jammed full forward. The rest works. In my family only my 14 year old daughter, enjoys being a passenger. My wife if she's in will drive it. I've had work on suspension while Dharn55 dropped off an Engine case (thank you) it was Nickied by LN, (thank you) and has reached Australia, the engine is being built away from the running car currently. The suspension shop was able to jam the seat in position suitable for my daughter. I have zero back issues except for the stock seats, my wife has back issues.
So the approved decision was aftermarket seats. Sliders base, in hand seat are built to order,so for Australia we will wait for the seats. Manual seats mean weight loss less pain. and new. Only electrics will be seat belt and air bag safety.
I think the future of these cars is stock. If you rebuild stock seats I would have them re padded re suspended. Or even with pump up lumbar supports etc. Many do say the 997 seats are a gain, they aren't being parted out in Australia.
Your seat relays are under the seat. I'd start there. Sounds like your control unit is sending the signal to the relay and the relay is not responding correctly. Attached is the memory seat wiring diagram. p.s. Alarm control unit is not part of the seat system.
It sounds like you're dealing with an issue where only the driver's seat isn't working, while other electrical functions (like the passenger seat, hood latch, and mirrors) are functioning properly. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:
Check the Fuses
: A blown fuse could be preventing the seat from working. The fuse box is typically located in the trunk or under the dashboard, depending on your model. Look for a fuse related to the seat adjustment and check if it's blown. If so, replace it and see if the seat starts working.
Inspect the Wiring
: Sometimes, the wiring under the seat can become loose or disconnected, which could be why the seat isnt moving. Check the connections under the seat and ensure everything is plugged in properly.
Seat Motor
: If the fuse and wiring are fine, the seat motor itself could be faulty. If you're comfortable with it, you can test the motor by connecting it to a power source directly to see if it responds. If it doesn't, the motor might need to be replaced.
Switch or Relay
: The problem could also be with the seat switch or a relay that controls the movement. Testing the switch with a multimeter can help determine if its sending the correct signals to the seat motor.
If you're unable to diagnose or fix the issue yourself, it may be best to take the car to an indie shop, especially since electrical issues can be tricky to troubleshoot without the right tools.
As for manually sliding the seat forward, on most 996 models, there should be a manual lever or a bolt underneath the seat that can be adjusted. Look for a small lever or handle at the front or side of the seat base. If thats not visible, check for any bolts securing the seat and remove them to manually move the seat forward.
Good luck! Let me know if you need more help.
