I also had the gas collar fitted since California have stricter emissions for gas pumps/venting.
Leading evidence: 'Install since california have stricter emissions' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check engine if left open' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If you've over-filled your gas tank and then immediately drive the car like i drive, :burnout: , you could have contaminated the carbon canister with liquid fuel.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My car is a
2007 Cayman S
A few months ago my car started to intermittently show a CEL. The CEL would go away a few days later then come back in another few days later.
Recently, the CEL is now on all the time and I get a P2402 code when I use my OBD tool. I've also noticed that it's gotten harder to fill my fuel tank all the way. The tank will only fill up to about 3/4 before the automatic shut-off on the fuel station pump.
I've done the following:
- replace fuel cap: no change
- used by OBD tool to actuate the fuel vapor valve: I can hear the valve in the engine bay working
- used by OBD tool to actuate the carbon canister: I don't hear anything from the canister in the front trunk
- used by OBD tool to monitor the carbon canister load value: the value mostly ranged from 0 to 1, but sometimes when up to 2 during a drive around the neighborhood. At one point, it went to -0.5. Not sure what any of these values mean
It sounds like some valve in the fuel tank system is not working properly. I read that these symptoms on a
986
point to a vent valve behind the wheel liner. Does the same thing exist on a 987? I thought the 987 didn't have this part.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Not sure what 2402 error means. Fuel system related?
Here's a dumb theory based entirely on your comment about the gas station pump shutting off too early...
If you've over-filled your gas tank and then immediately drive the car like i drive, :burnout: , you could have contaminated the carbon canister with liquid fuel. When fuel gets into the carbon, things don't flow well then and carbon bits get in the fuel system clogging the fuel filter. You shouldn't fill much past where the pump shuts off the fuel. I go to the
next
even $.25 on the pump but that's it. Don't try to see how much fuel you can get in the tank of any car or motorcycle with a carbon canister.
I would make sure I knew specifically what Error 2402 refers to before spending a lot of money on a fix.
Good luck with this one.
This is a wild guess: make sure the oil cap is tight. It will throw a warning check engine if left open.
This is not mine and came from from another site:
P2402 - Evaporative emission system leak detection pump control circuit high.
From reading Obd references for older cars (an 02
Boxster
and an 02 Turbo for example) there are probably several tests that are to be done each one eliminates a possible source of the leak.
Porsche
techs have these test steps and can follow them. Maybe if you are on good terms with a
Porsche
dealer in your area a tech will print out the test steps for you. I have in the past received this 'service'.
(Just consulted my 03 Turbo's OBD references and for say P0446 - Evap cansister shut off valve below limit there are 2 test steps; for P0447 - Evap canister shutoff valve (output stage) - open circuit there are 5 test steps.)
Without the test step details (assuming they exist), you are going to have to look (or smell) for a leaking hose.
Sincerely,
Rockster.

Hi, you are describing the same symptoms when I first bought my car used. I ended up going to a different dealer that found the fix after 2 tries. First dealer kept resetting the light and it would intermittently come back. I never asked for the CEL code since it was still under CPO. The part they replaced was 997-605-125-01 fuel vapor detection pump/diagnostic unit. No issues after that. I also had the gas collar fitted since California have stricter emissions for gas pumps/venting.
And yes, it is behind the wheel housing liner as stated on my service receipt. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the tips. Do think it might be the carbon canister and fuel vapor pump. I have an autoenginuity scan tool and when I activate anything related to the carbon canister, I don't hear or feel anything in the canister move. I'm going to try and open it up to inspect.
Unfortunately, I'm not a tech. Here's what's on my job description if that will help.
removed wheel housing, removed filler trim near filler neck, smoke test tank and lines, replace dmtl pump, vehicle now passes short tests.
The
Porsche

Interesting that most dealer prices I found were cheaper than Pelican.
