After a bunch of internet research and talking to guys, I used Montway Auto Transport.

It's been a number of years, but I used shipacardirect.com, the broker, who shipped with SDM Transport Inc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I hate this. To me the most stressful part of out of state purchase is picking a transport carrier. Is it just me or are they really all crooks who could care less about your baby. lol
Please help with any recommendations you may have. Transport needed form WA to CA asap
I just purchased a 2015 Boxster S from South Carolina (I live in NJ) and had to have it shipped. After a bunch of internet research and talking to guys, I used Montway Auto Transport. Cost was $829 for open trailer and $1,069 for enclosed trailer. I chose enclosed trailer and everything went great. Communication was good, car arrived in perfect condition. They picked up when they said and delivered when they said. All good.
It all comes down to the actual trucker... I sold my MR2 to a guy in SF... he obviously pick the service... that car was so phucked up when he got it....
Porsche08 is right, that's why I didn't pick the lowest quote on Uship and I paid extra for enclosed. I guessed that guys with enclosed trailers might be a step or two more careful than the guys with open trailers? You definitely want somebody who is insured, gives you a bill of laden, takes pictures prior to loading, etc. Montway did all that and I think that makes the drivers more careful.
Montway is a national company. Enclosed I'm getting bids of 1.50 a mile versus .75 open. I'm looking at about 1100 miles. I signed papers yesterday so I have to pick somebody soon. Last time I did this I picked a low bid and they were just a broker who put the bid out to some random guy with a 3 car hauler. Luckily that worked out ok. This car is more valuable. and I'm trying to talk myself into an enclosed transport.
The hack that picked up my car didn’t have loading boards.. before he got there I raised up the suspension 5” x 4 and it still would rub... I found boards and we got it on... but he told me he had 4 other pickups and mine was the last one off... so he’s got no boards and it’s probably going to be on and off a few times... geee that sounds healthy... it was a f’ing mess... someone pushed on the cf wing... split into 2 ... lip, cracked, split... engine leaking oil like crazy... I think he drove it. It was a fast car and I think he got curious..... made me so mad even tho I couldn’t care
That sounds like a nightmare, Porsche08. When I moved my Z4 with a low bid the truck broke down & the delivery was late but the car was ok.
I just got a fair quote from Montway. Thanks for the tip SouthJersey
Most people do not realized that most advertised transporters are just brokers who put the job up for bid to a whole industry of car moving companies
and entrepreneurs
.
If they accept a really low bid to increase their profit you get the short end of the stick.
I’ve always had good luck with Intercity Lines for cross country trips. If doable, I try to transport myself by taking a trailer to get it or flying to the location and driving it home. In February I flew to Ohio to pick up my GT4. I flew out in the morning and was home with it be 10:00 that night after driving it 650 mile. It was a great way to get to know the car.

Generally that’s how it works... and if they tell you the car will be there on Sunday, it’s more like the following Thursday... why? Because they take other “bids” along the way so it helps them economically speaking.. your car will probably come on and off a couple 2-3 times before it’s destination... my 997 was still at my Florida location, after this MR2 ordeal, I flew down and drove it home... a big roll of painters tape and I was off... it’s not worth it imo, id rather just drive it back..
I had my baby delivered in a covered carrier and it went fine but I understand the dance you have described. Since it's a Boxster, consider added protection over the top, if the car is on the lower run of the carrier cars above it can drip oil onto your canvass. Photograph every square inch agree with the carrier on any dings before departure.
I am leaning towards a covered transport. Some have single and 2 layer haulers. I suppose the top is preferable given the possible oil drip you mention. Thanks for the heads up.
I was in the same boat though my deal didn’t materialize (Phoenix to No VA). I say definitley go for the enclosed trailer, not open.
I had settled on Intercity. They had a good reputation as far as I can tell on ******** and they are not a broker taking bids.
Also +1 on full documentation of the car via photos prior to shipping.
Intercity told me they do not run the route I requested
Montway does and their price looks doable. So that is the top choice now...enclosed ness than $1 mile.
Finally made a deal with

Very nice people will transport my new baby in an enclosed transport. 🚚
In case anybody wonders Montway is just another broker.
I used Montway for a car from Denver to Chicago. Montway is close to me and I figured... if anything went wrong it would be a whole lot easier to take legal action against a local company. I didn't need to. They picked up and delivered my car to my house without issue. The driver provided accurate updates (car had tracking in it). I would use them again.
I heard other good reviews also. I just wasn't getting that warm fuzzy feeling from them. When I called to confirm my online submission they didn't answer the phone with a company name and didn't have my submitted info correct. I was wondering if I had been skimmed off the net of the phone system..... So I ran - lol

I had two two cars shipped to NH. The first was my Cayman from Texas . I let the dealer choose . It was a reputable dealer so I assumed they had a reputable shipping company and they did . It took about a week to get from TX to NH . Uncovered carrier . It came in good shape . Second was a Cayenne from Illinois . I let the dealer choose . The car got here much faster than I though but it was covered in mud . It came last month and they drove through that tropical storm we had so I expected it to need several washings .
Both good experiences but like I said I let the dealers handle the details .
It's been a number of years, but I used shipacardirect.com, the broker, who shipped with SDM Transport Inc. Chicago to L.A. No hassles and was delivered 2 days earlier than quoted. That was a mild headache, but welcomed. It was an open multi-car trailer. The driver mentioned he'd encounterted a number of thunderstorms en route. The car was FILTHY, but nothing scratched/dented etc. I shipped a Cayman, good luck.
Booked with
interbay transit
for an enclosed transport 1200 miles. They came and picked up the car today a day ahead of schedule - So excited. I'm driving my wife nuts. Honey, did I tell you they picked up my car today. Yes, 4 times.
