I understand Porsche will inspect a car and put a warranty on it, how much is this likely to cost?

Is it very unrealistic to think I will pick up a 911 with a warranty still running for 15- 22k?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
My name is Terry, I am currnetly a 2003 BMW M3 owner. I am looking to sell up and move onto a 911 996. Not sure if it will be a Carrera or a C4 yet, any advise appreciated. Likewise, I am sure there are others on here made the same move. My budget is going tobe about 22K max, and I am really hoping to try and get something under Porsche warranty, although I appreciate that may be difficult. I understand Porsche will inspect a car and put a warranty on it, how much is this likely to cost?
Going to look at my first one tomorrow, what do you guys think to this one:

Cheers for any help you can give!

Hi Terry and welcome. There's never been a better time to buy a 911 so you should be in a good position.
The warranty is subject to a Porsche 111 point inspection which costs 2 hours of labour, so about £230 and the policy which is (IIRC) £1,500 ish. If you do a search on this forum, you will find plenty about the new policy. You will need to put right anything the inspection picks up before taking out the policy - it is an
insurance
product, after all.
Of course, the inspection is a bargaining tool with your purchase and you could probably get the seller to have the inspection done and rectify any faults. You may find that the policy has to be taken out on the day of the inspection so it is probably worth paying the extra £1,500 to the seller for him to put the warranty on the car before you buy it.
Beware of a dealer's standard 3 month warranty because it probably isn't worth the paper it's written on.
Lastly, have a decent pre-purchase inspection done on a potential purchase. These cars are not cheap to fix and a couple of hundred on a PPI could save you thousands ( a clutch will cost at least £1,100 from an Official Porsche Centre)
Doesn't look like this one has the Porsche Sports Exhaust (PSE)? You really
must
hear the difference between a regular exhaust and the sports exhaust.
The regular exhause is nice - I'd describe as:
The PSE is in a different class - and can only be described as:
(It really is that good).
Also doesn't seem to have Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or the BOSE soundpack - not must-haves for everyone, but desirable none the less.
Are you set on an Auto ? They tend to be a little cheaper, but not as rewarding, IMHO.
Hi Terrymcg
My Carrera 2 996 is up for sale via Phil Raby. Its on the 911 UK Website.
I've attached a photo for your info.
Regards Big Bob
PS I've already bought its replacement a 997 GT3
Welcome Terry,
Mine is up for sale too... lol
Wellllll ... blatent bit of salesmanship but!!!
Actually Terry you will find a lot of very very useful advise from everyone on here. Seriously!
Also there is the 2 blokes in a npub being the authority on everything in a small way too ... lol hey only a bit though honest ...
Take your time .. Its a buyers market and ask advice on here. Post cars you are thinking of too.
Definately definately get a sports exhaust!!!!
Thanks for all the pointers guys!
Looks like I may have to give a 911 a miss! Thats extortionate for a warranty and an inspection to start with! And I thought BMW were bad!! Why is Porsche servicing so reasonable, but a warranty so dear??
Is it very unrealistic to think I will pick up a 911 with a warranty still running for 15- 22k? Do a lot of people go for the 2 years warranty to get it cheaper?
Cheers
Terry
Thing is the M3 is a nice car, but the 911 is just on a different level, not so much a car as a way of life!!! I guess like most things in life you get what you pay for!!! Don't be put off by the issues of repairs etc just get the right car to begin with and it'll be ok.
Hang on a minute Brother Rose!!!
Silver with a black interior?
10 million Porsche owners can't be all wrong can they?Where's the post "Mercury falling from the sky and moulding into my car" gone to?
Other post:
Sports exhaust?
Noise?Headache?annoyance factor?
Interferes with the telepathy of man and machine enjoying an perfect sense of well being. Are we bent on noise?
Ithought that was for teenies with scooters and mopeds.
Now a BMW instead of the chance to own a Porsche?
That can't be what i'm reading surely.
It's all down to choice.
Buy what you want but try try try a Porsche before you miss your opportunity.
Pork on!
PS
The car you are looking at looks very nice to me!
Looks great value.
