The total cost including the health check which included pressure testing for boost leaks and checking if maf figures are ok and the custom map was £1000.

I'm thinking of going with the JZM option, which involes sending your ecu file to germany, having their man map it there, file sent back, adn installed along with 5bar fpr by JZM...

The Tubi isn't too bad, it does drone slightly at motorway speeds - however Mihnea at MRC has changed his for a custom 3" exhaust which in his opinion is the right size for these exhausts and gave more power.

I replaced the DV's for Forge items not too long ago and the MAF was replaced last year so nothing needed replacing.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

The fpr could've been changed if DMS did it, I bought this car with mods done so I have never had it changed however we did have to alter the map considerable to get the fueling down to an acceptable level from the standard X50 map, so this could've been a reason why.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thought I'd share my experiences with you all, I've come to the Porsche fold from my old Audi RS4 the B5 Bi-turbo variety.
During my ownership I became hungry for more power and researched into the most reputable companies, this turned out to be MRC Tuning in Banbury. They transformed my car from the standard 380hp to a more manageable 460-470hp with a custom map, full exhaust and modified downpipes.
Anyway now I have the 996 which was DMS550 mapped when I purchased, although being quick I was disappointed with the delivery, making it not nice to drive round town - too jerky.
So I contacted MRC Tuning whose owner Mihnea, has a 996 X50 himself, said they'd do a custom 'live map' on my car. Well I'm very impressed the car is transformed again, very smooth delivery and perfectly manageable round town. Its like a different car, maybe a tad quicker than before but only running 1-1.1 bar boost. Comparing it to his own car, which has been dyno'd at 540hp estimated mine to be between 540-550hp.
Anyway enough ranting, if anyone is thinking of remapping I'd highly recommend this company and if you glance over the Audi forums you'll see they're highly rated, and cheap in comparison to other custom maps.
PM me for any info if you like
Rick
there are maps and then there are maps.
Interested in a custom live map vs the off the shelf compromises from the many suppliers out there.
What sort of money for the custom job?
I have k24's as it's an x50
The total cost including the health check which included pressure testing for boost leaks and checking if maf figures are ok and the custom map was £1000.
Also interested to hear more about this.
What did the live map process involve... was the car run on a dyno and mapped in each gear.... how long did it take, and were any other mods fitted, e.g. hoses, DV's etc ?
Does the claimed power output also incorporate a sports zorst ?
Thx !
I'd get your money back, your car came with 450bhp to start with! You be looking at 500bhp but with masses of torque before you need to consider exhaust/filter etc etc
Can I suggest that before going to anyone else you go back to Mike Cooper and Rob at DMS and discuss the jerkiness with them.
My experience of DMS is that they are interested in having satisfied customers.
So give them a chance, especially in a recent Turbo Shoot Out they came out very well in relation to 9FF etc.
Regards Big Bob
Car was mapped on the road, through the gears - took most of the day with around 2 hours on the road. My car already had Tubi exhaust, cats, stainless manifolds etc. I replaced the DV's for Forge items not too long ago and the MAF was replaced last year so nothing needed replacing. If you wanted all that it would cost more to get around 550hp but just contact them, they are very helpful and quick to respond.
I think you've misunderstood my post, the first part was about my Audi RS4 I had, the Porsche was indeed 450 to start with!!
I have already had the car done by MRC Tuning, hence why I can tell you all of my experiences, the car was DMS tuned back in 2005 and by a previous owner so I am not a DMS customer.
I did however contact Mike who said the car should be fine, prior to me buying it.
Thanks anyway for your advice.
Interesting, thanks Shaky - 540-550 odd hp for an x50 with stage 1, map, zorst, manifolds, dv's doesnt sound over-optimistic... dms claim the same with just ecu and zorst
The other person I know that does live mapping is Wayne Schofield who is highly recommended by most that know him... I know he works a lot on 993's and is well respected with owners.
I'm thinking of going with the JZM option, which involes sending your ecu file to germany, having their man map it there, file sent back, adn installed along with 5bar fpr by JZM... claim is 510hp, going to circa 530hp if you add Europipe.
I've also recently bought samco hoses and will look into DV's.... either Forge or Hyperboost
That's a good idea replacing the hoses and DV's, just eliminates there being problems with pipes spliting or valves leaking then. Mine has the samco hose kit too but it was mentioned when I went to MRC that the hose between the y-pipe and throttle body is prone to splitting too - this doesn't come as part of the kit!
Mines ok at the minute but I'll change it soon to match the others, keep me posted how you get on. It's good to read about people experiences be them good or bad.
Shaky, a few Q's as you have a nice set up with some good stage 1 mods..
How are you getting on with the tubi... i'm investigating zorst options at the mo... does it drone at all on mways/cruising speeds and can you feel reduced lag/faster spool up ?
What colour springs are you running in your Forge DV's... green or yellow (yellow are around 10% stiffer i believe)
Have you upgraded to a 5bar fpr ?... i know that Steve at JZM recommends and provides this for X50's that are mapped.
Many thx.
The Tubi isn't too bad, it does drone slightly at motorway speeds - however Mihnea at MRC has changed his for a custom 3" exhaust which in his opinion is the right size for these exhausts and gave more power. I think the Tubi on mine is 2.5".
I have never had this as a standard car so can't comment on the lag etc but it doesn't seem laggy to me in the slightest.
The forge's were supplied with green springs and to be honest I wouldn't have thought many if any can tell the difference when driving these cars.
The fpr could've been changed if DMS did it, I bought this car with mods done so I have never had it changed however we did have to alter the map considerable to get the fueling down to an acceptable level from the standard X50 map, so this could've been a reason why.
Hope this helps
