Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I would suggest getting the OPC to check the key but they'll probably end up charging you an 'investigation' fee for doing that
Leading evidence: 'Check key' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). You only need to change the transmitter bit which IIRC was about £75 at OPC.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Replaced it with an Energizer battery and it's worked fine for about 2/3 weeks and now this morning the remote lock didn't work again!
Morning guys,
Been having a bit of trouble with my key-fob lately. The battery went dead a few weaks back so i changed it. Everything seemd fine and working a-ok until about a week later when the fob wouldn't remote open the car again. Though it a little strange, but the battery i bought was an un-branded item and thought it may have just been a cheap one. Replaced it with an Energizer battery and it's worked fine for about 2/3 weeks and now this morning the remote lock didn't work again!
Any ideas what the problem is?
Taran :?:
Lol..cheers Damian, straight to the point, no pissing about..i like it!
Hmm, does it need re-coding or something..or is it just a whole new key job? And what's the estimated damage going to be?
Taran
Sorry mate, I had one key fail on my 4S, went to the OPC thinking that it's lost it's 'code', apparently they can only be programmed once, after that it's a new key fob. The blade's fine, the remote bit needs replacing.
Your OPC charges one labour unit for the program, although many indies can probably do the same with a PIWIS.
I would suggest getting the OPC to check the key but they'll probably end up charging you an 'investigation' fee for doing that
Cool. How much was the key et al if you don't mind me asking? I'm guessing about £200 odd?

Saw this on ebay...would it be worth me gettin this? Then i suppose i'll have to go down to the OPC to get it connected up?
What is PIWIS btw? Porsche diagnostic check or something?
Also, i see there's 3 types if 996 key - 1,2 and 3 button ones. Mine has one button on it that unlock/locks. What do the other buttons do?
Taran :?:
Something like that IIRC.
PIWIS is a Porsche diagnosic machine.
Only buy a key if it comes with a little tag having an identification number/code on it. You only need the fob, not the blade.
The two button key will allow you to 'fire' open the boot, a three button key activates the hairdressing option
yeah, I've been looking for a new key and been told by folks here and the OPC that you can't reprogramme just any old key off ebay unless, as mentioned, you have the paperwork etc from original purchase with codes. so all those peps paying £50 on ebay are stuffed. Its £200 at the OPC which stick in the throat a bit!!
Thanks for the info guys. Think i'll switch to my sparekey for the time being, and keep an eye out for a remote fob with all codes etc in the mean time. If i can't get one, i'll have to bit the bullit and get it from the OPC i suppose!

Seriously the Carrera GT key from Carnewal will work, £120 to your front door and a nice friendly indy should see you done for £150, bargain, roll up, roll up
Thanks Damian, just not sure i want a key with 'GT' on it. Stupid i know, but rather it said 911 if it's not going to be like my original key....(more fool me... :wack: )
Taran :frustrated:
You could Tipp-ex it out. :?:
You can swap the insides for your key and then you can sell the GT fob on eBay to some unsuspecting person.....I'm full of ideas today!!!!!
Drop Gert a line, I'm sure you'll get a better price (even with the FX rate) than an OPC.
..hmm, swapping the insides is an idea actually. Nice one! :worship:
Just spoke to my mate who knows a guy working for an OPC. He's going to see if he can do anything for me...will report back.

I've got the '911' style one and it's really nice. Everytime I go to OPC they always comment that they've never seen one before and is it legit?!
On the key not working situation. Mine did that about a month ago, the remote just stopped working, it manually unlocked ok but wouldn't remote lock/ unlock. You only need to change the transmitter bit which IIRC was about £75 at OPC. You can keep the external bits of your old key, including the glass coded bit. I just got them to change the body as well so I could have a nice new one as my spare key... The actual metal key just slides out and can be swaped very easily.
Thats great stuff Stuart, cheers for that mate. I'll nip down to the OPC next week sometime and have a word with them, much easier to talk face to face with them.
Funny enough, i walk down to car after work, press the remote and Robert's your mother's brother..it works! Maybe the key was sleepy this morning... :sleepy:
