I test drove the new 991.2 today, it was an S model with lot's of extras including sport exhaust and 4 wheel steering. It had a ton of torque, was very fast and was very quiet. Granted it had 30 miles on it so I figure the motor/exhaust need break-in time. The suspension was the big surprise... the sport PASM was firm but compliant and the chassis remained flat throughout corners. One new feature of Sport Plus is limited PSM and I actually got the rear end to drift out a bit on a tight corner. The salesman did not seem to care.
The take-away? Moving forward Porsche's will make a ton of power but will be pretty quiet. Gone are the days of loud intake noise and the roar of a flat 6. The 991.2 is moving deeper into the world of luxury GT rather than raw sports car... it is definitely a new direction for Porsche.
That's beautiful . . . but I am
seriously
thinking about a
used
991. I think I can afford a
used
991 and I can still enjoy a little rumble.
My first Porsche was the 911 in my Avatar. (That one was followed by a 924, a 986, two 987s, and two 981s.) It is fitting that my last Porsche should be a 911.
Why stop there? My dad is 81 and driving a stick shift still (albeit a Honda Accord).
Did you try the 20 sec engine/transmission prime button? What did you think and what does it really do?
Yes, hit the button a few times. Makes an already fast car stupid quick. I would get addicted to that button.
Here's a good review comparing the sound of 991.1 vs 991.2:

I saw this on ********. Both cars had PSE. 991.2 didn't sound bad. I am not sure why Nick bad mouths the power kits in the 991.1 GTS.
Took delivery of this 991.2 C4S last Friday, ordered 12/7/15, one of two allocations for the C4S my Dealer had.
PDK, SC and the list goes on.
Have 764 miles on it by the Porsche Car Connect(PCC) APP.
Half the learning curve and set up is the the technology built into the car.
PCC is set up and I have the Security Services which has a Secure Operations Center(SOC) monitoring the car and it's location. I can view it's location and speed from my iPhone and a lot more.
Anyway that's a small part of the technology which includes both the PCM and Apple CarPlay. I Mostly use CarPlay.
So I would agree with the OP about a "luxury GT" but the safety features are immensely satisfying to me.
The car watches my blind spots, has Adaptive Cruise that also AUTO brakes the car to a complete stop. Driving the Tollways and Expressways around Chicago and Milwaukee is much safer and easier now. I went from the Racine county south of Milwaukee to North of Milwaukee (Mequon) without touching the brakes or accelerator.
Now onto actual driving, yes, the sound is more muted than the 991.1, I donlt have SE becuase I like ti quiet in the cabin.
I have Bose and it sounds great. Turn, the rotary switch in the steering wheel to S or S+ and the sound drops a few octaves.
I have not used the 'Push to Pass' button because even in Normal mode it's very hard to keep this thing under 4KRPM for breakin whether it's needs to or not.
PASM is standard and it does it's job. Compared to a C4S of 15 years ago, it's luxury limousine.
The 20" wheels with P Zero's are noisy but that's what you get with this level of performance.
I have the new Sport Steering Wheel Heated/Multifunction with paddles.
Not only comfortable but adds an immeasurable level of safety because between the Steering Wheel and voice control, my hands rarely leave the wheel.
Performance evaluation will have to wait until Blackhawk and then Road America over Memorial Day.
You simply cannot use more than s small fraction of the performance on the road.
Speed limits have been raised to 70 in Wisconsin and at 75 you get a pass from enforcement.
In Illinois the limits vary from 70 on outlying sections of Toll Roads to 65 - 60 on roads surrounding Chicago.
NOBODY goes the speed limit and there is little enforcement.
Average speed on I-294 is 84mph.
Coming back from Chicago over the weekend, followed a group of cars in the hammer lane at 80 - 90.
This car is just made for this type of driving, too bad we don't have Autobahn's here!
This car is my daily driver and will get a set of winter tires/wheels.
I value the safety and technology, the quality, reliabilty, the Quality Control and build.
If you can live without all or some of these things than older Porsches may be for you.
But I grew up with the TR3's, TR4's, E Jags and the list goes on of the cars of the 1960's and 1970's.
They are nice to view at car shows and meets but not for me to own and drive today.-Richard
BTW, the verdict is still out on whether the 991.2 or the 981 drives better until Road America.
