Have any of you come across this before and do you have any idea if this is something I can do anything about myself (change a fuse or something similar) or if I need to take it in to a dealer?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

"SYSTEM ERROR: PHONE, CD-CHANGER & AMPLIFIER NOT AVAILABLE" now greets me everytime I turn on the ignition.
I have a 2004 996 C4S cab and the problem occured last week when I was a little more than half way on my way back to the UK from south of France. In the dashboard display a message came up saying "accept/ reject" as if I was receiving a phone call, but with no number coming up. Immediately after that appeared the system turned off and when it came back up it showed the above system error message (which I have to confirm each time I turn the system on).
Satnav, trip computer, radio and single CD still seem to work (although there is obviously no sound on navigation, radio and CD as the amp is out).
Have any of you come across this before and do you have any idea if this is something I can do anything about myself (change a fuse or something similar) or if I need to take it in to a dealer?
Thanks in advance
Henrik
Hi Henrik - I wouldn't take it to a main dealer just yet. I can see them saying 'you can pay £2500 for a brand new one sir' to you straight away. Try the indies first. Sorry can't be of more help.

Henrik - if you check the following thread it details all the indies that 911uk are aware of. I guess it's a question of trawling through each one to find out which is most convenient to you. Good luck and keep us updated. This kind of problem is not a very welcome type to those who have PCM.... :what:

Sounds like you might have a break in the MOST loop. It might be as simple as a disconnected fibre optic cable - these are the orange ones which run around the car. Trouble is, you have to take bits out to access them.
