Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Ten Things You Learn Driving The New Turbo Porsche 911 Carrera Sorry if if this has been posted before. Guy seems a grouch. Another review where base Carrera is supposedly more appealing, the S has a 'more elastic throttle'. Rear wheel steer, another thing to worry about failing at high mileage? Plastic oil pain? Engine done at 6500 rpms. Base Carrera looks more appealing to me with the manual and substantially cheaper than the S. Except PASM is standard whether you want it or not. With a manual and decent seats , less than 100k.

POST 2Original post

I'm really hard pressed to call that "grouchy." It's 90% very positive. About the only negative thing that stuck with me is that he feels the 991 (both versions) is too big. I don't agree, but it's true that my 991.1 4S feels bigger than my wife's 981 S, even if the two are very similar in overall dimensions. I've test driven a 991.2 4S. If I could have justified the price differential vs. used, I would have bought one. I really liked the car. He's right the throttle is less predictable than a 991.1, but the car just feels faster overall period. I haven't experienced the rear wheel steering first hand, but I'd certainly order it if I were going that route, worries about reliability be damned. I like PASM.

POST 3Original post

I didn't get that out of reading the review. I think you're searching for justification on whether to pull the trigger on a 911.2 base. Personally, I'd wait for the next generation for various reasons (too lazy to type them all out). 100k for a car is no joke. Buy it only if you truly love it.

POST 4Original post

Maybe I didn't get his sense of humor. Yeah he liked it but added various qualifying statements. Which makes it more believable I suppose than a gushing review or an overtly critical one. 100k is a big lump of money for me so it won't be something I will buy on a whim. Even if I do, I will wait to see what issues crop up in the next year or two.

POST 5Original post

I don't mind a good ribbing so I am not offended. The condescending and pompous-sounding posts are what I chose to ignore. So please no need to argue on my behalf. I have received some decent feedback about buying a 911. Mostly, as someone asked, do you really need another fun car when I aready have a Boxster and a comfortable commuting car? That is the most important question I think. I am not into collecting cars and I barely drive my Boxster 4k a year. So do I want to spend 50-75-100k on a car, age it in the garage for 3-4 years and then sell it because I am not using it. That would be silly especially if I buy a new base Carrera for 100k and keep my Boxster. In a few years, I won't be driivng as much so is that a better time? Also, do I want a rawer-feeling 997 or a 991? New or used if the latter? People have offered all sorts of advice which I will take into consideration. I agonized over my Boxster buying decision for quite a while and almost bought a 987 and decided to wait for a 981. It has been very easy to buy my commuter cars, 4 new Volvos for me and my wife in the last 10 years. I like the brand, have had good luck with reliability and they are/have been very reasonable to maintain. Plus very comfortable to drive in the daily grind.

POST 6Original post

I know you told me you cannot make time for them BUT...BUT ROAD TRIPS! Get your dream 911 and drive through 50 states. Or something. Maybe 48. Skip MA and VA.

POST 7Original post

Sadly, long road trips, cross-country types will have to wait. Mostly I do NH, ME and VT in the summer when I get time. In a few years, I will be more free for these kinds of trips and I am dying to do a cross -country trip.

FWIW, as an independent 3rd party, i did not read Caymeown's post(s) w the same set of eyes as Gus, and saw no offense.
