Suggestion

It's not a crossover failure, it's a complete channel failure, you might simply have a severed wire, doing a continuity check on this might prove it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've got a 2003 911 (996) with the PCM in it and the 6 speaker system (Nokia standard speakers) When I bought it the speakers all worked fine and more recently, one in the dash started playing up (front driver side dashboard). The speaker in the door works fine. I decided to upgrade all the speakers (and solve the problem) but the problem with the front driver side dashboard speaker output still appears. I'm therefore assuming its something to do with the crossover amp. D you know (a) where the crossover amp is located (b) can this be replaced by a 3rd party crossover amp (any make suggestions) (c) If an off the shelf 3rd party option is not available, do you know who can provide something other than Porsche. Any help is much appreciated as I dont feel like being screwed by Porsche prices on this one.

POST 2Original post

You've got a MOST equipped car and as such replacing the amp really isn't an option without replacing the headunit and the changer. These are all linked together via fibre-optic and link to the car's ECU for pairing etc. The good news is if you've got a Porsche warranty the amp is covered (or should be), I know the old warranty didn't cover headunits/PCM but the new one is covered. FYI, the amp is located in the front boot underneath the tray. It's not a crossover failure, it's a complete channel failure, you might simply have a severed wire, doing a continuity check on this might prove it.
