Well, the day I was going to test drive the high mileage car I ran into the guy that sold me the 911E, he's the owner of a local lot that has a pretty good rep of be honest and selling good examples of whatever on his lot (not sure why I didn't check with him first).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had a 1971 911E 15 years ago and made the sad mistake of selling it. Through the years I've wanted another Porsche but really never go serious about it. Well over the last several weeks things changed and I found the time right to look and maybe purchase another one. Well my budget was tight (mid teens) so I started looking. Ive watched prices over the years and knew the 996 was more then likely the only thing in my price range. Well, I had found a high mileage example that had all the right services done and the car lot would let it go for 15K. Wow, 15K for a 996 with 148K on the clock. i figured it was fare and besides it had a new clutch,IMS and RMS complete 200 miles ago. So was this going to be the car? Well, the day I was going to test drive the high mileage car I ran into the guy that sold me the 911E, he's the owner of a local lot that has a pretty good rep of be honest and selling good examples of whatever on his lot (not sure why I didn't check with him first). I told him about the car i found and was more then likely going to purchase. he said it sounded like a far deal, especially with the work claiming to be done. then i asked if he had anything on the lot in the same price range. he replied, "Why yes i do...." then my reply was " Well, tell me more". It's a 1999 996 with only 60K on it. I went and looked at it and I was sold. I got it to my local shop the next day and he's gone completely through it. He can't find a single thing wrong with it. my shop went on to say that it was very obvious that the car was VERY well maintained and cared for. After his PPI i drove the car. I fell in love. It's the first 996 I've driven and I was very impressed. Power delivery, handling and braking it was just a great car. I've read a lot on this car and seen a lot of information posted about. It's my opinion this is the most under rated 911 and WOW, for the money It a hell of a lot of fun and car for the price. Some will argue the IMS issue is a reason to stay away from it. I disagree for a number of reason and if a person does his homework and researches this car well i think they truly learn the facts. But this is a whole other post. So i wont spend time debating the car here and to be frank I really don't care what other people think. It's my money and I'll spend it the way I want. So, The reason for the post is to just say I'm the proud owner of a porsche again and it happens to be a 996.

POST 2Original post

Congrats! Welcome to the 996 club. IMO there's just something about them that I love too....

POST 3Original post

Congrats! I just picked up a 2003 996 myself. What a fun car.

POST 4Original post

Congrats and I totally agree about the IMS/RMS issue. I've had my 1999 911 Cabrio since new and it has been an amazing performer and wonderful car for 16 years. I've logged over 111,000 and only just recently went ahead and performed the IMS/RMS upgrade (only since I was putting in a new clutch and would be in there. The car has never let me down and has cost less to maintain than any other car I've owned. AND, it puts a smile on your face every time you drive it. No doubt you will get many miles and years of enjoyment out of it. Every time one of the "Porsche Purists" gives you a hard time about the shape of the headlights or the "impending doom" of the RMS, you can just smile and thank them because their dislike has lead to an affordable price in the market and a car that will outperform their older models :-)

POST 5Original post

Congrats and good for you! As bad as I want a 996/997, I chickened out. Couldn't part with the RSZ28. I wish you thousands of miles of happiness and great AC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well it's Saturday and I got some time behind the wheel and I must say no disappointments here. But with all my cars in the past I start to wonder about mods and so it's started with this one. What's mods can any of you recommend? Exhaust, headers, computer? Or any combination? What should I do?
